I presume you mean as in Poe. So many nicer names from poetry to choose from.

scaevola Tue 25-Sep-12 12:21:43

I think it's a lovely name (despite Spode in the Wodehouse books).

MadBusLady Tue 25-Sep-12 12:31:02

It's pretty, but somehow a bit of a tongue-twister. Wouldn't it just get slurred into Ew-llllee? Is there another similar-sounding name that replaces one of the Ls with something else IYSWIM?

perplexedpirate Tue 25-Sep-12 12:33:34

Ha scaevola!

The first thing I thought when I saw it was 'that's Jeeves secret password'.

I know all about Eulalie.

Gwennan Tue 25-Sep-12 13:01:40

I think Eulalie looks very pretty but I am not sure it is strong enough for a first name.

I would pronounce it yoo-LAY-lee but I'm not sure whether oo-la-LEE would be more authentic?

SomebodySaveMe Tue 25-Sep-12 13:19:12

It makes me think of Eulogy confused

Cezella Wed 26-Sep-12 14:36:51

Love it! It's so pretty. Never heard it before

Theas18 Wed 26-Sep-12 14:42:49

Wodehouse. Nuff said- but that's only in our slightly eccentric household .

SirEdmundFrillary Wed 26-Sep-12 14:49:27

It made me remember Wodehouse too but as I love his books it makes me smile and I think it's lovely!

rachel1970 Thu 27-Sep-12 08:44:02

Lovely name - pretty and underused. People will remember her (beautiful) name easily imo.

saffronwblue Thu 27-Sep-12 08:51:02

I think for me it has too many vowels and is too close to ululate. She will spend a lot of time spelling it to people. But if you love it, go for it!

Safire Thu 27-Sep-12 09:07:50

I also thought Wodehouse. And pronunciation/ spelling might be a problem?

I like it. I'm pronouncing it "U-lay-lee" in my head. Yeah, I think its nice!

TeriyakiGoldWoo Thu 27-Sep-12 10:39:20

I think it's beautiful.

allthefun Thu 27-Sep-12 10:58:48

What on earth is the point of names that no one can actually pronounce?

Sure it's nice in a book but that's different from a lifetime of frustration as the poor child has to correct everyone's spelling and pronunciation everyday.

MrSunshine Thu 27-Sep-12 11:01:00

Its really easy to pronounce. You-lah-lee. It's French.

ellesabe Thu 27-Sep-12 12:43:12

Sounds too much like a musical instrument to me. Sorry!

Honsandrevels Thu 27-Sep-12 12:47:19

Spode's underwear shop?

Panzee Thu 27-Sep-12 12:50:11

Another one who thought of Spode's underwear shop! grin

MoonHare Thu 27-Sep-12 14:37:34

Weren't you thinking of Tabitha recently? Tabitha is much better than Eulalie!
