Thinking of Darcey for first DD due in 5 weeks?
What do you think? Will people think of Strictly Coming Dancing?!

Love it! Maybe not send her to ballet class...

I used to really like it, but now it's so popular it's put me right off. Also all the Darcies I know have siblings with names I really don't like (think Lola, Emmy, Esree, Mimi, Bebe etc) so it's kind of categorised it for me as a 'silly' name.

There can only be one person with that name and that is, the once, principal ballerina. It looks rather sad and 'try hard' to name a child after someone with an unusual name who is so talented. This applies to any person in the public eye who can be identified, just by their first name. Sienna, Madonna etc.
It's a 'nuffin's too good for my liwwle pwincess' sort of a name, otherwise.

I don't think Darcy Bussell, I think 'surname'.

Darcy is my favourite girls' name ever. I don't live in the UK though so it's not particularly popular here for me to be sick of it!

Sounds like arsey.

I don't even know the ballet person.
I just think Bridget Jones or pride and prejudice!
So automatically think it should be a boys name not a girls!

I have a Darcey. It's a marmite name on MN

Maybe we're chavz though, innit, half my fame thought it was vair posh Wink

Oh, and she goes to ballet too. Only because we want a dancer child, not because she actually enjoys it...

It's more commonly used as a boys name here. My friend has a grandson called Darcy and when mentioned that I had not previously heard of it used for a boy, she got all arsey with me.Don't think she had heard of fore mentioned ballerina.

Love it! Know a very polite and clever little girl named darcey

Is it really getting popular? - I have never met anyone called Darcey! I think it's just getting popular on talkboards where people talk about names.

I think it's great and can imagine your daughter being a bit like Winona Ryder with that name.

I quite like it, but I know about 5 under 3 years. Popularity of a name doesn't bother me at all (all 3 of mine have very common names) but it might you? I would also spell it Darcy Grin
