Order of initials

Trying to come up with a middle name for our impending DD. The trouble is, our surname starts with H, and nearly all the middle names we both really like start with A, meaning her initials could end up spelling something pronounceable (but not rude - mah, nah, pah, etc.). Do you think that it actually matters, in a getting picked on in the playground kind of way?

I'm asking because I'm known by my second name and I've always said that my children won't be, because it's been mildly frustrating to have to explain that every time I filled in a form or had a new teacher or whatever, yes I am that name but actually please call me this, no I didn't choose to put them that way round myself.

I definitely don't think it matters unless your initials spell BUM or POO or similar . MAH, PAH etc are absolutely fine. I wouldn't give it a second thought.

We don't know if we're having a boy or girl and are still struggling a little with first names and haven't gotten as far as middle names. I figure we'll decide on the day which means I'll get to choose as my DH will be powerless to argue with a labouring woman.

Well I have just realised if we have a wee boy his initials are likely to be OCD

I may have to rethink.

My uncle's initials are ASS. According to family legend, he knocked out the first (and last) person to tease him about it at school That was back before the war though...

At risk of outing myself, my DD's initials are RAAW.

Unless they are particularly bad I wouldn't worry, before marriage mine used to be ET, I did hate that, it was the worst ever :)

my boys are CIM and CAM - they are 12 and 11 and have never had any comments.

My DS initials are RAH and mine are the same as a double glazing firm!!

My DD is ANT. Noone has ever said anything.

i was always sad at school that i didnt have a pronouncable set of initials! as long as its nothing offensive i wouldnt worry at all!

Our DD was going to be VAG which would have been so cruel so we added another middle name in. She is VWAG

I think punkypod was wise, but not sure your options are anything to worry about pinpan - and you never know whats going to be an issue in the future either. DH has said that he likes one potential middle name we have for a girl because her initlials would be LOL and that would have meant nothing to someone choosing a name a few years ago!

In fact DH is even coming up with nickname options based on our top choices and maybe I ought to be more worried - a boy could end up being Maximus Decimus Meridius, which would apparently make him some sort of commander of forces of the north???? I really wish I had a better memory for movies...

Our surname is very, very common. The names I like for first and middle begin with W H (if we have a boy) I've decided against the middle name for this reason! He'd sound like a shop!

My Grandad's initials were VD (no middle name) and he got awful stick for it back in the day, so much so that his stories of it meant my parents tried my first two initials with every other letter to make sure that if I changed my surname it still wouldn't spell anything.

My initials are CJD. Needless to say its been a talking point since I was ten years old!

My initials and my siblings are all *AW. Nobody has ever commented negatively.

A girl at my school's initials were BO. Doesn't get much worse! Poor girl!

I think it's fine. Avoid BO, BJ, KKK, VAG, COCK etc otherwise fine.
