I always like the name Keturah.

Chip is right, mumsnet thinks K names are terribly chav. And that Kardashian lot don't help.

I am a Kirsty, btw. Don't call a baby that, it's a shite name.

Some nice names to pass on there ... I could only offer Kacey, Keira for girls and Kaiden , Kai , Kian, Keegan , Kyle for boys ! Thanks for the help smile

I'm a K name. I like my name and I'm frightfully middle class. So do fuck off K haters.

gallicgirl Sat 08-Sep-12 22:46:21

Can't believe more people haven't suggested Kayden.

Surely a modern classic for any gender?

KirstyJC Sat 08-Sep-12 22:49:07

Kirsty is a lovely name. <blows raspberries at GetOrf>

I also know a Kian (boy) and I like Keira.

(I didn't realise MN didn't like K names. Maybe that's why I appear to be so good at killing threads?)

FunnysInLaJardin Sat 08-Sep-12 22:52:15

Katharine is quite posh and quite naice as is Katrina and Katherine. Also Khloe, Kim, Kourtney, Khardashian, and Kylie

joanofarchitrave Sat 08-Sep-12 22:52:55

Katharine.

racingheart Sat 08-Sep-12 22:54:04

I love the name Katya (or Katja) for a girl.
Katie (how could anyone think that's common - it's a classic.) Keira, Karola, Keren, Kristin, Kali, Keris.

Kai is very nice for a boy. Kyle is fine too. Kristian is gorgeous, Kaleb, Kasper, Kerry, Keiran.

LouMacca Sat 08-Sep-12 22:55:29

There are some really hideous K names on this thread! Kyle & Kai are bad enough but Keegan!!! Just saying........

LtEveDallas Sat 08-Sep-12 22:56:20

I think K names are the new black. DDs (yr 3) class has 5 out of 18 (all boys) This years Reception Class has 11 out of 26 (mixed, and lots of them I've never heard before so couldn't tell you if they were boys or girls)

slowestwildebeast Sat 08-Sep-12 23:04:48

Kimbra, somebody that you used to know?

UnnamedFemaleProtagonist Sat 08-Sep-12 23:24:03

In Ds's reception class are two Kade's (boys) and one Keelan (girl). <shudder>

Katherine or Katharine is nice.

Also - Kerenza

For boys - Kit; or Kenton (like in The Archers) or Kester (Woodseaves from Precious Bane)

Kip? short for Kipper.
Kap? short for Kappa (tracksuits).

Badgerina Sun 09-Sep-12 01:29:26

There are only 2 possible names that begin with K, that this form deems appropriate for a future high court judge (Mumsnet's offspring occupation of choice, apparently) and they are...

Drum roll...

Kit or Kitty.

Badgerina Sun 09-Sep-12 01:30:44

Yes, I know I go on about the high court judge thing, but it IS one of the most absurd things I've ever read on a baby naming forum.

DougalMcDougal Sun 09-Sep-12 01:35:05

Kontol

BaronessBomburst Sun 09-Sep-12 01:46:02

I've just checked Wiki for the list of high court judges in England and Wales. Funnily enough, they're all called Justice! Even the girls. grin
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_High_Court_judges_of_England_and_Wales

slowestwildebeast Sun 09-Sep-12 01:55:03

Konvict. High Court Judge name right there.
Kondor.
Kaptain.
Krikey.

Kachine - like Machine but more 'K' like.
Kakra.
Karma.
Kangaroo - 'Skippy' for short.

Kessie : KEH-see : ghanese "fat at birth" - just what you want smile

Pochemuchka Sun 09-Sep-12 02:01:23

Ignore the K-haters.
How a simple letter can cause such vitriol and ridicule I'll never know!

I like Kyra, Kira/Keira, Keren for girls and my son's name is Kairon - pronounced Kye-ron (can also be spelt Kheiron) Aside from on here (specifically in the baby names section) I've had nothing but good comments on it.

Of course you may wish to recommend one of the following instead:
Atticus
Benedict
Artemis

For a girl: has to be Octavia (Skoda connotations don't count)

Never met one in RL though. Perhaps people pretend to like the names on here so other people won't use their own choices?! grin

Napdamnyou Sun 09-Sep-12 02:18:59

Have we had Kanye and Keanu yet?

LouMacca Sun 09-Sep-12 08:55:39

Pmsl slowest Loving Krikey & Kipling grin

I do actually love Kit & Kitty - tell me the story Badgerina??

I also love Kate and..... erm, no that's it.

Pochemuchka Sun 09-Sep-12 10:00:02

I am finding it very offensive that people are coming on here purely to be rude about 'K' names as they are used widely in my culture and plenty of other cultures too (Greek, Islamic, Jewish, I could go on)

I don't see anywhere that the OP has mentioned wanting people to post suggestions mocking names that begin with 'K'. If you're going to be rude, don't post.

Considering MN's usual politically correct stance on sexism, racism, disability, class, etc. I wonder why this is acceptable because indirectly you're ridiculing people who don't fit the 'White, British, middle class' mould.

Keep your ignorant comments to yourself.

FunnysInLaJardin Sun 09-Sep-12 10:40:56

ah chill Poche.

If you'e going to have a high court judge then you really need to call it Justice to be in with anything of a chance

WhatYouLookingAt Sun 09-Sep-12 10:48:59

I don't know where this "mn hates k names" comes from. I've never seen it except in this context, people complaining about something nobody did.

What I have seen said (and wholeheartedly agree with) is that people don't like names that have been changed from a C to a K. Like Irish names, there is no K in the irish language, so its all C. But the english way is to change them to K's, which a lot of people hate (unsurprisingly when you think about the history behind it). There is no K in Italian either, or Spanish, so any names from those languages changed to a C are also odd looking.

Names from languages that use K are entirely different, so greek and turkish and so on names are traditional.

To sum up, Katherine fine, Kian is shite and etc.

Just my opinion but I know its not unique to me.

Skivvytomany Sun 09-Sep-12 11:03:29

I picked my children's names based on the fact I liked them and don't give a stuff if they aren't future lawyers names. grin
So I like
Kirsty -my name grin
Kayleigh - my dds name
Kate
Kitty
Kyle
Kyeron

Can you tell us what the other twos names are so we could pick something that goes with them and starts with K?

Pochemuchka Sun 09-Sep-12 11:05:19

It doesn't normally annoy me but some people have just come on here to sneer and I think that's really bad form.
It's fine to have those opinions but to come on a thread to mock the OP and not offer any constructive suggestions is rude.
It's hard enough choosing a bloody name!

Longdistance Sun 09-Sep-12 11:10:14

Klara. It's the European way of spelling it.

Startailoforangeandgold Sun 09-Sep-12 11:19:29

There are really nice K names, Katharine/ Kathryn, Karenza, Kaitlin, Kate.
Catrin could be Katrin perfectly easily.

Also pretty European names like Katerina.

But there are a lot of K name's that like it or not people will judge.

But there at

slowestwildebeast Sun 09-Sep-12 11:40:10

Relax. No need to reel out political correctness.

I only like Kate or Katie.
The boy names are not my taste, Kayden, Keegan, Kyle, Kai, just a bit samey.

For what it's worth my names is quite odd and means something quite ridiculous so I was laughing at the meaning not the cultute it came from. Also my name was going to be a K until my parents discovered my initials spelt out an unfortunate term for poop.

WhatYouLookingAt Sun 09-Sep-12 11:45:51

"European way of spelling it"

No it isn't. Pick a country, Europe is BIG, and as mentioned, plenty of European languages don't have K's.

CotedePentathlon Sun 09-Sep-12 12:07:11

For a boy - Kenneth

For a girl - Kathryn

My name is Clara and is written as Klara in
Hungarian. Also written like this in other Eastern European countries, and have also seen it written like that in Germany.

So there!

Badgerina Sun 09-Sep-12 14:27:43

LouMacca I really love the names Kit and Kitty too. The story is that Mumsnet hates names that begin with a K (I have NO IDEA if that's true), which is ALWAYS mentioned on a "K name" thread. Usually along with the recommendation that one chooses a name that would suit a future high court judge (or doctor) and that doesn't include K names. Or Jayden.

It's all very jolly hmm

Badgerina Sun 09-Sep-12 14:28:17

(I'm exaggerating by the way)

LouMacca Sun 09-Sep-12 14:54:46

grin

Or Tyler.

Ok enough now - each to their own and all that wink

Badgerina Sun 09-Sep-12 15:31:59

Zackly grin

WhatYouLookingAt Sun 09-Sep-12 19:03:30

So there? hmm
You proved my point you numpty, its only a K in a few European countries.
There is no "European way" of spelling a name, what with all the different languages and even alphabets in the whole of Europe.

Badgerina Sun 09-Sep-12 19:20:17

My mum is Clara with a C. She's Dutch.

Ooooo some lovely ideas , I will be sure to pass them on smile I personally don't have a problem with the K name , sorry to the posters who do , seems I may have woke the bee in your bonnets lol .

Skivvytomany , she has 2 DDs with a K name and it was always a joke before she got pregnant that people would expect a 3rd K , she hasn't decided yet if dc3 will be another K but I was just thinking of ideas in advance , just incase smile

Thanks for the ideas , I will be sure to send her to this forum for some ideas !!
