More help needed with girls names

I posted here a couple of months ago asking for help finding a name for our baby girl with our awkward surname.

We got some really nice suggestions but unfortunately DH and i are still to agree. The only one we both really like at the moment is Annie but would this sound awful with our surname?

I do like Catherine but the idea of it being shortened to Cathy is putting me off. I also thought about Elsie but is this a bit try hard - I really want to avoid that!

Has anyone else had such difficulty as this?!

How about Kathryn instead of Catherine (Kathryn is my dd's middle name). It was the hardest thing about having dd2, choosing her name, we had a name for dd1 and luckily she suited it. Dd2 was 2 days old before she had a name, poor thing, but as soon as I read it out of a name book, that was it, it suited her and still does (she is a Kirsty).

Annie sound ok with your surname, if I have guessed it correctly.

I love all of your suggestions. Annie is just lovely. Catherine doesn't have to be shortened to Cathy, you could have Cat. Elsie is lovely unless the nn is Ellie!!

I have never been called Kathy so it's not inevitable.

In fact Elsie is more popular than Catherine or Annie.

Although of course try hard does not exactly equate to popular.

If I'm not too late (!) I would have Elsa rather than Elsie, you can still call her that but Elsa seems more like a full name to me. Pretty, I like it.

With your surname it's tricky. I know you don't want 'try hard' but you need something with weight to balance it.

Elsie is fine, not 'try hard' at all. Catherine would work. Anything being shortened to Cat would be unfortunate.
