Sappho--I can't, can I?
(66 Posts)I started a thread asking for some strong girls' names for dd the other day and got some great suggestions. I'm really drawn to names ending with o: Juno, Dido, Margo(t) etc, all of which have been vetoed by dh. Anyway the name Sappho popped into my head today and I love it, but it's just too ripe for playground abuse isn't it? Or by the time kids work out who Sappho was, would they be a bit older and beyond the name taunting stage?
Aouch, big NO from me as I am not sure anyone could live with a pejorative term for "lesbian" as a name...
Not playground abuse, but faces from everyone she meets after the age of about 14.
Its a bit brave for my tastes!
Its a shame really, as without thinking about anything but the sound and the spelling of the name it is gorgeous.
Your pregnancy hormones are making you suggest bonkers things. Sorry. You cannot call your child Sappho.
no you really can't
how about Saffy (what is that short for?) or Seraphina?
No.
Sophia?
I know, small beer after Sappho. [gin]
Fuck.
No no no no no!
No- you can't call her Fuck either.............
Sapphire?
No, you can't.
sorry - saw you wanted a name that ends in O
If your DH has ruled out the ones you've listed i think it is the o sound he doesn't like
if you are feeling underhand you could name her Margaret and then call her Margot/June but call her Juno!
Or just call her Kiddo
Noooo, no Sapphire.
Stick to Sappho then.
Sorry, Once.
I love the sound and also the literary connection... but you are of course all right (it's post-partum hormones domestic, not-Sappho is now 10 days old ) Think I may created a historical first with a baby name thread eliciting unanimous opinion.
lol at the madness.
No, you really can't.
Calypso?
Callisto?
Consuelo?
What does it even mean?
You're probably right Coffee, but in preference to Sappho...
Saffron
Saphire
Has your DH given any good suggestions?
Everybody only Astrid, which i think sounds like acrid. (Sorry sorry sorry to all Astrids and Astrid-parents on here.)
Saffron might fit.
Raphaelle?
Once, No!
[Grin]
