Baby names

Are any mumsnetters actually called Clemency or Clementine?

Hi,

Have changed name in case dh or friends recognise me.

I love the name Clemency and also Clementine and am hoping to use it for forthcoming dd.

I see from a search on the baby name threads that it is a bit polarising for Mumsnetters and what I want to know is not whether you like it yourself, but if you are actually called one of these, or have a dd or sister called it, whether you like your name/their name, or whether you wish you'd been called something else such as our other names on shortlist like Emma or Anya.

French friends have just had a Clemence. I think it's a gorgeous name and classy, with variants of Clemmie/Clementine.

I know a Clem/Clemmie, I don't actually know what it is short for though! I think Clemmie is a nice nickname.

Clemency is my name! and I have to say love it. I've only ever had lovely compliments about it. I'm regularly told 'what a beautiful name' and I rather agree.

In fact I'm having a slightly hard time find a girls name for my daughter, due in November which ticks the same boxes: unusual, pretty, yet easy to spell and pronounce.

I had a minor amount of teasing as a child with people singing 'oh my darling Clementine' but it never especially bothered me.

I have Clemency as a middle name, and my brother has Clement. I don't know that either of us particularly like or dislike the name really.

I know a grown up Clemency, who loves her name. I think it ages better than Clementine.

Clementine was one of the names I seriously considered for DD3. While I love it I chose something different in the end. Good thing as she turned out to be a redhead.

I like Clemence a lot but don't like Clemency that much -- reminds me of death row.

I had a midwife called Clementine, and I looked after a baby Clemency.

I met a Clementine nn Clemmie. She said that growing up she didn't like having an unusual name in the area we lived. (parts of it are quite rough) but now she was grown up she loved it.

I love it too, it's such a pretty name.

I have a dd called Clementine and know one other. We pronounce it teen rather then tine which confuses people. We call her Cleo for nn as I can't stand clemmie.

Knew a little Clementine known as Clemmie. Very pretty I thought.

I'm good friends with an adult Clementine. Her mother insisted on pronouncing it Clem-on-teen "like the French" when we were growing up and she hated it.
She always introduces herself as Clemen-tyne now, but typically it's becoming very popular with the youngsters now that she finally likes it.
