Baby names

Struggling!

We're having a gorgeous baby girl later this year, and just like with DS, there is no consensus with names between us. He likes what I'd term '80's' names - they're girls I grew up with and have no desire to name my daughter any of them (jennifer, Emma etc).

I like names which are possibly slightly weird, but IMO lovely ;) Sadie, Maisie and Rose have all been vetoed.

The list we have, which are ones he hasnt dismissed outright but doesn't actually have strong feelings on, is thus:

Tessa
Seren
Cameron
Claudia
Aila

He particularly likes names that can be shortened to a nickname. Any suggestions, please, that could potentially please us both?

I love Tessa and Seren - but have a bit of a lisp so could not use them, even if we were going to have more.

Sylvie is one of my favourites but cant really be shortend.

Beatrice/Beatrix
Madeline
Phoebe

What about Charlotte (Lottie, Lola, Lotta) Jessica (Jess, Jessie) Imogen (Immy, Gen/Jen, Genny/Jenny) or Eleanor (Ellie, Elle, Ella, Nell)?

Well of course its up to what you and dp think in the end but personally I wouldnt choose seren or aila (how do you pronounce these?) As the child will have to put up with a lot of can you spell that or mis- pronunciation.

How about: Jessica, Samantha, Paige, Karis, Maci

Reactions - no to everything from him - he's a nightmare.

I also tried Ottilie, nn Lottie, but he's not for it.

Seren is pronounced Seh-ren. It's a welsh name and we live in Wales, so wouldn't have to worry about mispronunciation or spelling.

Aila - ay-la. Admittedly not one of my favourites, but I'm holding on to what we have!

I think my favourites are Tessa, Seren and Cameron.

Love sylvie and Imogen, but he will not entertain them. :(

Bunty my girl - don't let you DH over-ride you on your baby's name!! Is he the one who's body Baby will be expelled/delivered from?

No.

Stick to your guns.

We'd decided on a name beforehand but when I'd had him and the midwife asked for his name I blurted out another which had even been discussed. The midwife wrote it down before anyone said anything and it stuck.

Not that I'm saying you should plan to do that intentionally just that sometimes a baby fits a name????

I love Tessa and Sylvie so Emily?? Anna??

I feel that way, MT! Especially since this is probably our last baby, and I had a horrendous time of it with DS - naming rights should be mine!

Natures - maybe I could just say the name I want at point of birth as well and then he's stuck? I love that idea! Unfortunately, we already know 2 Emily's, and her cousin is Anna. See below for explanation ...

Edith - we know a Theresa and a Therese (i'm determined she won't have a name the same as anyone we know).

I love Tessa. So simple but pretty.

The only name I'm not sure about is Cameron for a girl. I think it would be assumed she's a boy. Butnthinking about it, it ismquite funky for a girl.

I meant "hadn't even been" not "had" fat fingers

Could you discuss you choosing the first name and your DH the second and having several to see which suits her?

Or beg/plead/demand? Grin

Ellie??? Rebecca???

I really like Seren, Claudia and Tessa. Not keen on Cameron for a girl because there are far prettier girls names to choose from IMO!

Some other ideas:

Clara
Anya
Amara
Stephanie
Saskia
