Ava or Millie?

Count down on to the last few weeks before our baby girl is due, we still can't decide on name. So todays favourites are Ava or Millie.

Love some input or suggestions welcome, thanks very much xx

Both are very, very popular.

If you don't mind that, my vote is for Millie.

Neither - they are both SO widely used already.

Hmmm, I like both, possibly Ava edging out in front. I agree that both are widely used however they are both lovely names.

Ava. Millie is quite sweet, but for a little baby/girl. Ava is lovely and will go all the way through baby- and childhood to being a grown up.

Good luck, whatever you choose!

I love the name Ava. If ds would have been a dd then that's the name we had chosen.

Millie

Millie, as long as it's a nickname for Amelia or Millicent.

Otherwise Ava.

Ava for sure

Ava. Millie is a rubbish name for an adult.

Millie short for Camilla. Camilla is a great option for when an adult.
I adore the name Camilla....

Would you pronounce it Ah-vah or Ay-vah?

Report
emmyloo2 · 18/07/2012 08:51

Please not Ava - it is everywhere and will date.

Camilla (with nn Millie) on the other hand is fabulous. Absolutely gorgeous.

I really dislike Millie, it is a nickname and I always think of either Mildred or Millipede.

Not sure about Ava either.

Sorry.

I prefer Ava, it's short and will suit a girl/woman of any age. Both names are popular, but I don't think that's any problem.

Both very popular and trendy. As people tire of them, they will start to sound dated. Also, if you have a widely used surname, then your dd could have a difficult time differentiating herself.

Any others you like?

I have an Ava and think it's a gorgeous name. Ignore those people who say it is common and will age badly, they probably say that about that isn't one of their's!

Why should the op ignore people who take time to offer their opinon? She is asking for honest opinions, isn't she?

Report
Sarcalogos · 18/07/2012 12:33

Surely, if a name is popular and dates 'badly'.

Well there will be 100s of 1000s of people with the name. What examples do we have of names this has happened to? Are these people beaten in the streets? Financially disadvantaged? Unable to form meaningful relationships? Unhappy?

No thought not.

Honest opinion, neither! Both are everywhere now, Ava is difficult to distinguish from all the evies and evas and eves and ellies, and Millie from the maisies and marthas and lilys and lilas and lolas......

But ultimately, choose what YOU like.

There are indeed A LOT of Avas/Evas/Evies and Millies/Tillies/Lillies out there....

No one is suggesting that they will get beaten in the streets or the likes, but what people are saying is that having a super popular name can have disadvantages. But at the end of the day, it is your choice. We are only offering (hopefully helpful) opinions.

Both are nice but popular as mentioned by others. My DDs middle name is Ava, and we have six of them in our reception year. We have two Millies in my sons class.

Ava is a lovely name, but I agree with other posters that personally I would think carefully about whether I loved it enough not to mind that it is very very popular and there will be lots of others around. Maybe this does not bother you, however - I think it probably does not bother most people but on the baby name threads you probably get more people for whom it is an issue.
