Really like the idea of Kitty if we have a girl -am I setting her up for a school life of teasing if I do?

I love it and it was my late grans name to (she was Catherine with a C but known as Kitty). DH hates it though and we're having 3 boys anyway so that was a wasted argument. Don't think she'd get teased, would you call her Katherine and have Kitty as nn? She can always choose to go back to Katherine if so.

Love it, though i would give full name Katherine/ Kathleen.

I was at school with two Kittys. They switched to Kit as soon as they got cool. I personally think it's a bit little girly.

Personally I don't like it - it's a cat's nickname, and I can't stand cats! But lots of people here do like it and will claim there's nothing feline about it at all.

I don't think it would invite a lot of teasing - most people will like it, get used to it or won't say anything (I'd never comment in RL, only on here where opinions are requested).

Personally I like kitty but not katharine. Nice old lady name. Incidentally, the only kitty I know is not at all girly!

My DH wanted to name DD2 Kitty. Although it is nice, I vetoed because I couldn't get past the teasing potential for adolescence/adulthood (i.e. kitty=pussy).

It could have been me overthinking, and overthinking to come up withteasons why my choice of name was better, but I think the potential for teasing is there nonetheless (maybe less so as a NN).

Kitty (cat)

I like Catherine/Katherine though.

I bet you can guess what my name is.... I've had various nn over the years but never kitty. I think if you want it have Kathryn/Katherine/Catherine as full name. If she doesn't like kitty then when a teen she can be Kath, Kathy, Kat, Katy, Kate, Kay, kit, the list goes on.

Kitty is much better than the ubiquitous Kate/Katie

Yes Kitty is good and a nice nickname for Katherine

I think it's nice and Kit when she's older is v.cool
Don't bother with the Katherine. Its not necessary. And personally find the name a bit boring. If you'd just be doing it to be pc/conventional then go with the quirkier choice.

Love it. I would use Katherine to give her some options as she gets older though.

I like it as a nickname for Katherine. Makes me think of Shadowcat from the X-Men.

Lovely, especially if used as a nickname.

Incidentally, schools often ask for a preferred name, so she could be Kitty at school (ie you can choose her nickname.) I know a Charlotte who is always known as Lottie, by her parents' choice.

Our neighbour's daughter is Charlotte but she is always introduced and known as Lottie.

I wrote a birthday card for and addressed it to 'Miss L. Surname'. It was only a few days later when I realised it should have been 'Miss C. Surname'! Such is the power of NNs, I suppose!

I love Kitty as a nickname but prefer Katharine to Katherine. Just a matter of taste though.

Sweet - so long as christened Catherine/ katherine .

I once got flamed in RL over this by someone who had named their baby Kitty-not-Katherine because...... Their own name was Katherine!

I like Kitty.

I picture a Victorian girl/woman with brown curly hair and a pink bonnet . . . . or my Great Aunt Kitty who ran her own pub till she was 87.

Kit is also lovely.

I don't think she's be teased, but I think it's too girly and young for my taste.

Katherine is a lovely name but (if it matters to you), I predict it becoming a very common name
