Help - 38 weeks and still dithering over name for DC3...

DH and I are feeling completely uninspired names-wise. While poor DS did not have a name until he was 3 days old, DD had her name from me being 5 months pregnant. So I thought we were getting better.

We have, I think, narrowed it down to Alice or Nancy. We have loved Alice since the beginning, our only issue is whether it's too confusing with DD1's name, which is Isla. (I've done the pretend shouting it across playground test...)

So - despite trying to find a different name, we've still got Alice in top 2...could we just go with it?

Thanks MN...My other 2 children had arrived by this point, so feeling twitchy and overdue at 38 weeks...

Both are lovely names and both go well with Isla. However Alice is fairly common these days and Nancy less so.Still you should always go with the name you love-fwiw Alice Nancy sounds good and keeps your options open :)

I don't think Alice and Isla are too similar. In fact I cannot see that being an issue at all. But then I speak as someone with two DDs whose names are very, very similar (somehow I did not notice this until many months after DD2 was born). The similarity does not bother me, they are too individuals and rarely if ever will their names be judged in comparison to their sibling.

I love Alice but was put off using it as I am not keen on the nn Ali and I always shorten names.

Nancy is nice too.

Thanks guys. It's funny, I've seen a few posts saying Alice is quite common now... Not a single Alice in DS (8) and DD (6) classes/ circles, but it might be all over toddler groups...

When we called DD1 Isla, it wasn't even in top 100, I don't think...and when I was in a London cafe the other day there were 3 under 2 :o( Grrr! So want to avoid same experience with 'Alice'.

Hmmm, hadn't really thought about the nn aspect. That's what took 'Juliet' off our shortlist...

I live in London and know tons of under 5 year old girls. No Alices but two Nancys...

Obergene - I would shorten Alice to Lissie rather than Ali.

I think Isla and Alice sound absolutely fine. The fact they each have strong vowel sounds makes them work well as sibling names, in my opinion. Nancy is nice too but it hasn't got the same classic, gorgeous, feminine feeling as Alice.

You could consider using Alicia but, really, I think Alice is the one for you. You clearly love it and, while I like sibling names to go well with each other, I think loving a name trumps all considerations like that!

Obergene and Stellan - love the advice you give, so think I am going to take it :)

It is the name we both keep coming back to - a decision, huzzah! Now just to pick a middle name. (DD1 wants 'Diamond Jubilee'...)

I dont think Alice sounds too much like Isla at all. Alice is lovely, don't think it's that common but even if it is who cares? If you've found a name you both love then go for it!
