Sophia, Layla or this alternative?

Hi all

Think I'm finally whittling down names, I love Layla Evelyn Grace

But is Sophia Evelyn Grace better? I don't like shortening to 'Soph' though.

Cousins DD called Layla too, so wondered about amending Layla to Mayla instead (love M names) anyone heard of? Could I have your opinions on?

DH will prob veto anyway.....

I like Sophia. I have a name that can be shortened and until I decided to do it myself as a teenager everyone always used my full name. So if you only ever use Sophia then everyone else will.

If you like Mayla and other M names what about Myla?
I know not everyone likes it as its come up on here before and some people were a bit but I love it! I may be slightly biased (as I have one) but I think its lovely and I've had so many nice comments about it! She almost had Evelyn as her middle name too as its a family name but we went for another quite similar sounding middle name instead!
Layla and Sophia are both lovely names too BTW!

FWIW, Sophia was a very close contender for both my DDs names. Layla isn't far off my DD2s name, so we have very similar name tastes :)

IMO, Sophia Evelyn Grace has a better ring to it

Mayla doesn't sound like a proper name. I think Sophia is classier sounding than Layla and goes really well with the middle names. I don't think that Sophia is often shortened to Soph unless the Sophia herself particularly requests it, so probably not something to be overly concerned about.

I like either version Layla is very pretty and not heard of much. My DD is Sophie and it does get shorted to Soph all the time . I also knew a Sophia who got called Fia.

Tbh i think any name will get shorted DH was dead against Soph but now says it himself. I have a name that You would think you can't shorten yet MIL and SIL call it me and i loathe it.

Layla and Sophia both pretty names. Sophia is obviously way more common, if that matters to you. I like Mayla too but not as much as i like Myla, Mila, Maya or Mia but its still nice and very unique which is a bonus for me. Kayla could work too?
I haven't heard of anyone called Mayla but I do know a Maila (pronounced Myla) who is about 23. Her parents are lawyers. She is beautiful and super kind and social but sometimes a bit air heady (but who isn't in their teens!). I think she ended up going to university for arts.

The snag with Mayla is out loud it sounds like "mailer" or, worse, "maler" - which might not be a real word, but I'm not sure 'more male' is a goos association for a little girl.

Sophia Evelyn Grace is a lovely combination. All classic names which fit really nicely together.

I have a Sophia (therefore am biased!) but to be honest she is never Soph. She has a nickname that isn't really related to her name, and one that is just the way our older daughter said her name as a baby.

Sophia Evelyn Grace is a beautiful name. Layla (tho spelt Leila) was on my shortlist too, but dh wasn't keen! Always been happy with our choice, and tho we don't use Soph, if she decides when she's bigger that thats what she wants then I can't imagine it will bother us!

Not sure about Mayla..think it would be like mailer..

If you love 'm' names what about Martha/Miriam/Mara/Mairi? Like the other suggestions of Mia and Maya too.

Layla. Both are very pretty but there are too many Sophie based names around (unless you'd rather go with a more popular name in which case Sophia all the way.

I have a Sophia spelt Sofia, its never shortened to Soph, sometimes Fia or Fee.

Thank you all ladies, decided Mayla not for me and am Bristolian so it would defo have sounded like mailer but I do and always have loved Mia anyway, so it's either Sophia - said in full all the time :), Layla or Mia.

My heart says Layla but problem in that it's Cousin's DD name, not even neccesarily a problem for her (as we don't see each other very often) but potentially for my Nan who would see both of them and probably wonder why I'd picked it out of all the names in the world!

Why don't you spell it Leila?? just an alternative spelling if it's the cousins name too. It's a prettier spelling imo. I am not a fan of the name but it seems very popular!

I like Sophia and Mia - very cute! we were going to have Annabel (Annie) for dd2 but went with Lucy in the end due to the shortening of names issue!

Layla is alluring; and I like it spelled like that, the Eric Clapton way, much more than Leila.

one of my very best mates is called Layla, so I'd vote for that one. I like that it's a bit rare, I like the sound of it, and I like that it's got a lovely backstory.

With Layla the initials are LEG - would that bother you?

I have a Sophia and on the rare occasion it does get abbreviated she's called 'Fee' or 'Fia'

Sophia is much more chic than Layla. Mia is OK but again Sophia is much nicer.

DD1 has a name with an obvious shortening, we NEVER use it and as a result nor does anyone else. Of course there's no accounting for what a child's name preferences will be as they get older, but it's their name and up to them I think.
