Son's name :o)

My son's name didn't exist on the baby name finder here so i added it yesterday and it appears as the name of the day today !!

We have sort of made it up but not really.....I liked Keir or Kerr, OH liked Ciaran. Ciaran means the little dark one and we didn't think he would be little so we took the "an" bit which is the "little" bit and kept the Ciar - pronounced exactly the same way as Keir so everybody happy. :o)

Well, I suppose if you've already named your son that the deed is done.

what do you mean by that nizlopi?

What we have done is go back to the original name rather than the diminutive.

he also turned out to be blond but hey ho!

I think what nizlopi means is that she doesn't like the name very much. I'm not keen either, but I'm glad you and your partner are - that's all that matters really.

What do you want OP? You didn't ask a question or even make a point yet somebody still commented. Don't be so snitty. And FWIW the 'name' is awful.

He's called Keir but spelt Ciar?

Sirzy · 13/06/2012 20:42

Making up names/changing spellings to something bizzare rarely makes a decent name IMO but if your happy with it thats all that matters.

planetpotty · 13/06/2012 20:45

Oh bloody hell right

  1. It's not awful
  2. OP forget you ever posted and hide this thread now.

That's my advice - take it and go enjoy your new little boy without being upset by strangers on MN Smile

Sirzy where do you imagine the vast majority of names came from? Names have been invented and adapted since the beginning of time.

Report
Sirzy · 13/06/2012 21:01

Ok the modern ones people use. I can think of very few made up names in recent years which I like.

Not made up at all! meaning of Ciar

Report
johnnycomelurky · 13/06/2012 21:06

Sorry, not sure why link didn't work Blush It is a Gaelic name and not "made up". I think maybe OP meant she added it to MN baby names as it wasn't on there yet.

lisaro, what a nasty thing to say to someone about their baby's name

Report
lisaro · 13/06/2012 21:11

yesterday it's not nasty at all. The op posted an odd opener that seemed as if she expected everyone to love it. She was off with another poster. And the 'name IS bloody awful.

ladydepp · 13/06/2012 21:12

crikey lisaro what are your dc's called? I do hope their names are PERFECT

MerryMarigold · 13/06/2012 21:15

She's just celebrating, that's all. Well done OP!

Love it. I knew a Ciar a long time ago and always wondered why it wasn't used more.

Still a boatload of bitches here I see.

Very good.

My children have normal non made up names. I don't wish them to be a laughing stock. Obviously I'm not advertising them on here as I don't need approbation for being 'creative'.

Report
rachel234 · 13/06/2012 21:17

Lisaro, the OP has NOT asked for your opinion and I don't think anyone (including the OP) would expect everyone to love one's choices! The OP merely seems excited that 'her' name has been made 'name of the day'.

No need to make nasty comments about her son's name imo. And, how dull if we all chose the same names. What are your children called?

Report
SoftSheen · 13/06/2012 21:17

IIRC 'Ciar' is the original gaelic spelling of 'Keir', and so not made up at all- quite a nice, and unusual choice, IMO. It would be boring if all little boys were named Archie or Stanley or Wilfred.

Congratulations on the baby, OP. :)

The name isn't 'up my street', but I am pleased that you and your OH have found something you like so much.

I am have had lots of Hmm looks when telling people that I love the name Bruno...

Every name has been 'made up' and names are constantly evolving.

Well I don't see the OP begging for "approbation".....

OP, tis a lovely name and at least you won't have 3 others in his reception class !! Grin

Ciar is a really nice name I think - I like that and Keir.

I think it's one thing to take the piss out of someone's list of names when it is in the abstract (and the person is still undecided) but to say a name is horrible when a new mother has just named her newborn baby that is bloody awful, frankly.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 13/06/2012 21:25

I didn't see anywhere where the OP was snotty.

Strange old thread.
