What do you think when you first hear or see it?

squoosh Tue 12-Jun-12 14:54:56

I love it. It's one of my very favourite names. To me it sounds very 17th century.

ShatnersBassoon Tue 12-Jun-12 14:55:38

I think cat. Then I think little girl.

knittedslippersx3 Tue 12-Jun-12 14:57:08

I love it. It was second on my list for dd!

nizlopi Tue 12-Jun-12 14:57:45

Same as Shatners, sorry!

squoosh Tue 12-Jun-12 15:16:14

Lots of people do think 'cat'. That's not awful though is it? Better than conger eel or tape worm.

PurplePidjin Tue 12-Jun-12 15:29:36

Cat. Especially as an acquaintance of mine insists on referring to her ickle pwincess Tabby kitten...

Yes, this is on The Evil Farcebook hmm

birdofthenorth Tue 12-Jun-12 16:13:34

Love love love this name. DH did not.

birdofthenorth Tue 12-Jun-12 16:14:22

PS I was told DD's name is a horse's name, so the cat thing wouldn't bother me. It's not like you'd be called a child Fido or Whiskers.

EmmaCate Tue 12-Jun-12 16:16:48

Like it a lot but obviously shortening to Tabby or Tab would be off limits, so perhaps would not be practical.

TequilaMockinBird Tue 12-Jun-12 16:18:05

I think of the little girl out of the TV programme Bewitched. She used to wiggle her nose, very cute!

I love the name though, sounds feminine and pretty smile

HipHopOpotomus Tue 12-Jun-12 16:21:20

I loved it when I was about 11. Now it makes me wince - twee & frilly

StepOutOfSpring Tue 12-Jun-12 16:36:45

A comical name for a cat.

YouFloatLikeAFeather Tue 12-Jun-12 16:47:52

Think it's lovely.

Mechavivzilla Tue 12-Jun-12 16:49:18

I love it. If DS had been a girl there is a high chance he would have been a Tabitha! I also think Tabby as a nickname is lovely. Stephen King's wife is a Tabitha.

slothprincess Tue 12-Jun-12 16:50:15

I have a baby Tabitha and we get so many compliments on her name. I happen to love cats so don't mind the feline association at all! grin

squoosh Tue 12-Jun-12 16:52:49

Interesting HipHop, I hate what I consider to be frilly girls names although Tabitha doesn't fall into that category for me. I think frilly when I hear Arabella, Clarissa, Felicity . . . .

Frilly seems to be a state of mind!

Sastra Tue 12-Jun-12 17:04:25

I don't mind the cat connection ( but I also love Felix for a boy, so maybe this is revealing something about me...).

I also love Tabby and Tabs as nn.

It goes really well with our surname too (which is no mean feat) and DH doesn't hate it (which is no mean feat).

Mechavivzilla Tue 12-Jun-12 17:06:05

this makes me smile Sastra, Felix was also on our short list!

Susieloo Tue 12-Jun-12 17:07:25

I love it, this is still my number one name if it's a girl, due in July, DP on the other hand will not entertain it at all, he can't get over the possibility of her nn being Tabby and therefore cat like. I don't think I'm going to be able to change his mind.

Rindercella Tue 12-Jun-12 17:09:04

I quite like it. Makes me think of a twitchy nose. And then a cat.

Justfeckingdoit Tue 12-Jun-12 17:10:17

Love it. Mind you I have come to realise that most of the names I like are characters from Jilly Cooper novels.
