Considering Theodore but torn between Theo or Teddy as the "everyday" name! What do you think? I love them both but with Theo being so popular is Teddy a better alternative?

I like Theo, but Teddy is also nice. It's win/win - your personal preference smile

Theo is indeed very, very popular and will probably fall out of favour as people tire of the name. I think Teddy is cute, but I'm not sure whether it might suit a teenager or grown man?

Theo is much nicer smile Teddy is a toy's name.

I have a Theo...his nn is Theobear (I really regret not having "bear" as his middle name as it suits him so much)...he's gorgeous and as cuddly as a teddy smile

DottieRose Mon 28-May-12 18:54:30

I think if he found Teddy too cutie cutie as a teenager/adult then he would still have Theodore to use or could then start using Theo!

Either are lovely. If you call him Teddy when he's little, this will naturally become Ted when he's older, which is also an awesome nn.

I like Teddy/Ted.

I knew a Theodora who went by tee- dore, (T-dor), v cute.

Sarcalogos Mon 28-May-12 20:29:57

Teddy as a small child, ted as as teenager, theo/theodore as an adult, ted as an old man.

Perfect grin

I know a teenage Ted and it is Vair cool round these parts.

PestoPenguin Mon 28-May-12 20:34:23

Teddy is dire.

Theo on the other hand is adorable. Fab name on it's own or as a nickname grin

5madthings Mon 28-May-12 20:39:09

I have a Theodore, he gets called Theo, he is 12, he loves his name, when he was little i called him 'theodorable' grin this is NOT cool now tho and he doesnt like me to call him that anymore sad he will always be my little theodorable tho, despite the fact he is now taller than me grin

scentednappyhag Mon 28-May-12 20:39:48

I LOVE Teddy, and think its perfect for a child, teen, young man and old gimmer grin
Go with Teddy! <lives vicariously through OP>

5madthings Mon 28-May-12 20:39:53

we also called him the O man as in theO! smile he has had numerous nicknames but goes by theo now, his choice smile

SocksOnFire Mon 28-May-12 20:49:21

I have a Teddy/Ted and it's a cracking name.
Ted-dy Ted-dy Ted-dy grin

5madthings Mon 28-May-12 20:51:24

we used to sing a song to our theo, to the tune of the Trio chocolate bar ad, but replaced trio with theo blush or we said Teee ooo teee ooo i want a teee ooo... etc etc....

Anonymumous Mon 28-May-12 20:57:21

Ooooh 5Madthings I use Theodorable for my son too!!! grin

He was Teddy as a baby, and DH and I still call him Ted or TedBear occasionally. Everyone else calls him Theo, which he prefers. When he's naughty he gets the full-throated "THEODORE!!!" All great names - you can call him whatever you like depending on your mood.

He actually thought that 'Dore' was his middle name until he was about four...

Anonymumous Mon 28-May-12 20:58:19

OMG 5MadThings we did the Trio song too!!! grin This is getting quite spooky!

RooibosWithMilk Mon 28-May-12 20:58:27

I heard of a Theodore called Tedo once.
I think I prefer Theo to Ted. You could use both and he can choose when he's older?

5madthings Mon 28-May-12 21:01:28

yes theodore for bad behaviour, complete with his 2 middle names, david william! it soudns oh so formal!

we called him teddy as a baby but theo is the one that has stuck. there are loads of options with theodore, its a great name smile

its a shame they dont like silly nicknames and songs as they get older, my theo give me a look of disdain if i sing the theoooo theooo song to him now sad

Anonymumous Mon 28-May-12 21:05:49

OK, this is officially freaky now, 5MadThings. My son's full name is Theodore David Williams! shock Eeeeek!

5madthings Mon 28-May-12 21:12:13

really how mad! my poor boy has a double barrelled surname as well as theodore david william, the david and the william are after his grandfathers smile

i say poor boy but actually he likes his full name, it will be great if he is ever an mp or something grin

Anonymumous Mon 28-May-12 21:19:45

I'm sure his full name is wonderfully impressive, since you clearly have such impeccable skill in choosing names, nicknames and lyrics!

5madthings Mon 28-May-12 21:33:19

grin

op its a fab name and whichever nickname you go with will be fine, we used teddy and theo and settled on theo by the time he was a toddler, along with theodorable which is the BEST baby nickname ever, and go google the trio advert so you can practise singing the theooo song!! its great grin

when i go up to bed this evening i shall have to go in and quietly sing the theo song to my theo!

DottieRose Mon 28-May-12 22:07:21

5madthings and Anonymumous you are after really really selling me on the name smile and the fact that it means (correct me if I'm wrong) gift from God is super sweet!!! I can't believe that I am finally settled on a boys name!! Just which nickname....I still don't know!
