Baby names

Edgar or Edward Anthony, initials E.A.R?

I would like to canvass opinions please.

DP and I are struggling for a boys name. We're "meh" about 99% of the ones we hear, but we both like the nickname Teddy.

I'm thinking if we're not going to use the full name anyway, lets go for something classic like Edward. DP likes Edgar, but either way he would be Teddy.

I really want to use the middle name Anthony, which is a family name, BUT our surname begins with R, making his initials E.A.R.

Now, we actually live in Germany and DP is German. Baby will for all intents and purposes be German, in which case EAR doesn't mean anything and probably won't be a problem.

So do we leave it as is, or should we add another middle name to break up the initials? Or think again completely?

TIA Smile

Oh and if we went for just Teddy as a first name, the initials would be T.A.R, not really solving the problem.... Grin

I was always careful about using middle names begining with vowels for this reason. EAR is not that bad even if you do come back to the UK. We gave DD an extra middle name so we didn't have a TIP.

My brother's initials are JAM. I don't think it's ever been a big problem for him. (He is in his late 30s)

Not too much of a problem, could you give the LO another letter
Like C, or d etc not to make it EAR

My initials are EAR (technically EAAR as we have a hyphenated surname) and it has never been an issue.

As initials go, EAR is inoffensive. Might give rise to a nickname during the teenage years, but how many people actually know your middle name anyway?

it's great when initials spell an innocuous word, and EAR is fine - if it spelled FEAR or DIE or something, I think you'd be right to worry! My DS is OAK or OK without his middle name - I love it - always wished my initials spelled something as a child!!

E.A.R - don't worry about it. Echoing the sentiments of other posters, it's inoffensive. It is a very lame thing to cause teasing in his teen years and would soon pass even if it did. Edward 'Teddy' Anthony is a really lovely name IMO :)
