Love the name Thalia so much. But surname is Taylor. Is Thalia Taylor too ridiculous?

It's not ridiculous, but I'm not generally a fan of same initial first and surnames. Also, the TT in this case would make me think of the Isle of Man races.

Thalia is a lovely name though. Would you consider it as a middle name?

Alliteration in names makes me twitch although I do like the name

I like alliterative names, but this sounds a bit wrong, to me.

sounds fine, if you love it use it :) Xx

Well, Thalia Taylor sounds to me like 'Tinker, Tailor', then I automatically think 'soldier, spy'. This could just be me, of course, and is not a big deal. Thalia is a very cool name but try to think of all possible criticisms your little one could get before bestowing this (or any) name.

For example, I really like the name Penelope, but the abbreviation 'Penny' rhymes with our surname and sounds silly, so that name was a no-no for both DDs.

Sorry but yes, I do think it sounds a bit strange together.

I think it sounds odd too, sorry Blush & isn't Thalia a Shoe company in Europe, or am I thinking of something similarConfused

Not sure about Thalia Taylor but Tally Taylor is a definite no. That said, I know someone whose married (nick)name is very similar to that (think I instead of an A) and it seems to work for her.

Ok so consensus is it's a bit odd then? Another name I love is Elizabeth but that's been ruled out for surname reasons too.

How are you pronouncing Thalia?

I've tried it several ways and I"m afraid it sounds ridiculous to me.

Thalia Taylor is not quite right. I know a girl from school who had initials TT, the boys all called her 'Titty'
How about Eliza/Elisa, Elise or Elliss if you like Elizabeth?

mumnosbest · 22/05/2012 13:46

or Elsie

It sounds a bit tongue twister like together. And probably not Elizabeth Taylor either. Elsie, Eleanor?

Rockinhippy - are you thinking of the book store?

Confused you know I'm just not sure Psamm I get a mental image of Thalia as a shop name over a window, quite funky looking, but I've a foggy head ATM & just can't quite remember it clearly, think I've seen it a lot though, so suspect its a chain, rather than independent, which wouldn't matter

Does it look like this?

I'm guessing the Th is pronounced as in Thailand, in which case I think it's probably a bit too similar sounding to the surname - like Tyler Taylor or even Taylor Taylor.

And that's on the assumption that the 'a' is pronounced 'ah' - if it's pronounced 'ay' then I'd say it's a definite no-no.

Psammead · 22/05/2012 15:26

It's TAH-lee-ah

If it's pronounced Tah-lee-ah, I think it sounds great!

I love the name Thalia, was on shortlist for DD2. And I usually like alliterative first/surnames but I'm afraid I agree with the others that it just doesn't really scan.

It's gutting to give up a name becasue of awkward surname issues, I know because we've had to do this too.

DD2 is Tabitha.

Tabitha Taylor works I think.

Good luck with your decision x

Yes Psamm :) - thats it :)

& I've also remembered where I've got the shoe thing from - Thalia is also the name of a US Trendy surf wear company & they specialise in trendy sports shoes -

No double Ts please :(- I really do think as said above thats just asking for trouble - they do end up being NN Titty - seen that happen amongst DDs friends
