Baby names

Found out we're having a little girl!

We found out today at our anomaly scan that we're having a little girl. I'd been convinced it was a girl as it's been a baby girl in all my dreams! But we've found boys names much easier... typically!

This is our short list of three - what do you think? We've tried to choose simple names that we both love that work for child and adulthood.

Lucy Gabrielle (pronounced Gabriel, after my grandma)
Elsa Rose
Sofia Grace

(Our surname starts with a G so we can't have Elsa G or her initials will be EGG!)

Any thoughts/comments welcome! This is #DC1 and while I've fantasised about baby names for years it seems much harder when it comes down to a real baby who will have to live and grow with the name you choose!

How exciting! Congratulations.

I like Elsa Rose best out of your list.

Congratulations!

I love Elsa Rose ... Really wanted Elsa for dd2 but Dh didn't. Your other choices are pretty too.

Really like Elsa. Beautiful name. It goes very nicely with Rose. Congratulations! We're finding out on Friday Grin

If you did especially want Elsa G without the EGG initials, you could always spell Elsa as Ailsa instead. (Not that there's anything especially terrible about EGG really!)

I'm fed up with every other girl having Rose or Grace as their middle name, so I'm voting for Lucy Gabrielle.

Congratulations :)

I love all of your names (I have a Lucy)

Elsa Rose is the prettiest I think

Thanks for the feedback everyone - Elsa Rose is DH's favourite and Lucy Gabrielle is mine. I guess best thing to do is wait until she arrives and see which one seems to suit her better. Good luck badgerina - it was so exciting getting the news. It all seems more real now, if that makes sense! Thanks again x

Lucy is more 'classic' than Elsa which sounds very 'retro chic' at the moment, but they are both nice. I just feel that Lucy will not 'date' her as much as Elsa may (see other thread).

(the fact that everyone else is loving Elsa seems to confirm this Smile).

Shoobidoo I am wondering that... I keep veering from one to the other wondering whether we should go for more classic or more retro name - which one will be better in 5 years / 10 years etc.

The comments seem to confirm that Sofia can be the third choice though so that's good!

FourThousandHoles does your DD like her name? How have you got on with it?

Elsa Rose. Beautiful :) Classic, timeless, pretty, and still a little unusual.

I like the first two off your list best, I think both Sofia and Grace are very popular at the minute, whereas the other two (four) names are lovely and not as common just now.
Sofia Grace together also reminds me of little girl.

Congratulations on your daughter by the way! Grin

I disagrre with Shoobidoo. Elsa is a name that will suit a grown up. It's not common, it's not uncommon and it travel well internationally.

Lucy is such a babyish name.

Keepyourchange oh good grief! yes, Sofia definitely third place then, ha ha! I love your name too.

Mirry we like Ella but my cousin (who I'm very close too) has a little girl called Ella. I do wonder if Elsa might be a bit similar actually - hopefully not!

They are all lovely, classic names. I think Elsa Rose is my favourite. I like Sofia too but she will have it spelled Sophia all the time. I think I actually prefer the ph spelling.

I named my DD Elsa Christina - Elsa after my grandmother, Christina after my mother.
I'm not sure what you lot mean about it becoming dated. Its not exactly a modern name.
Elsa is a fab name. I love it and have never regretted choosing it.
Like someone else said its not unusual but it is uncommon.

Thanks everyone - I do love both Elsa and Lucy, and appreciate your thoughts.

I'm encouraged from your comments that either name would work well. Let's see which one she suits when she arrives. And thanks for the congrats - it's been a bumpy road to get to this point so we are absolutely delighted a little girl is on her way to us.

Thanks again x

Elsa Rose all the way! Much more characterful IMHO

I like Elsa Rose but I do like Gabrielle so I would also have that as a middle name too. All my children have two middle names. Smile

Congratulations! Another one who loves all your choices!! I would probably go Sofia, Elsa then Lucy.
