i think dh and have finally narrowed it down to one of these ( it has been exhausting to say the least) even dd agrees and I thought we would never get there!
Baby will have dh's surname; same as Sherlock!

To my ears Sasha is a boys' name (simply because I know several male Saschas, mainly German).

Between Anneliese and Jade, I prefer the former.

Sasha Annalise

Agree that Sasha is a boys' name in many languages, which could you confusing for your dd should she ever study or live abroad.

I'm afraid I'm not keen on Jade at all, but if you use Anneliese I'd suggest spelling it like this rather than Annalise (which could be pronounced Analyse) and looks odd imo.

Anneliese spelled correctly. Jade is tacky.

It's a shame Jade is seen as tacky these days. I bet when Bianca and Mick were naming their little bundle of joy Jade was seen as an edgy and bohemian name.

These days though it has become a bit shop soiled.

Anneliese

Agree that Sasha/Sascha is very much a boys name in Europe (in Germany it is only allowed for boys!).

Anneliese - not sure that the English pronunciation is the nicest but I prefer it over Jade.

Interesting comments, thank you.

We live in Egypt right now, I am Canadian, dh is British, so there is a good chance this baby will live overseas for the next several years anyway, if not most of her life.

I haven't watched Eastenders in years, I assume that is the Bianca you are talking about. Did she name her baby Jade? I can see why people hate it if that is the case.

How do you pronounce Anneliese? We would pronnounce Annalise " Annalyse"
so it looks right to me.

Still not sure what to call her, but welcome more comments. Cheers!

Anna-lee-sa

Not Eastenders, they are talking about Jade Jagger.

Annalise, for sure. Prefer Scsha Jude to Sasha Jade, but then I suppose you would really have gender ambiguity!

redrubyshoes · 01/05/2012 16:11

Would you really pronounce it Annalyse? As in analyse the patient?

Report
birdofthenorth · 01/05/2012 16:15

Ann-al-ees surely!

EdithWeston · 01/05/2012 16:18

I would expect a Sasha to be a boy.

I'm not that keen on Jade, but think it's the option that flows better.

Anneliese is lovely.

Hmm Anneliese is a German name, so I gave the German pronunciation. Not sure about Annalise, but there are bound to be different forms of the name in various languages.

redrubyshoes · 01/05/2012 16:51

I have only met male Sashas.

Sasha = boys name to me. Annaliese is ok, but makes me think of "Neighbours". Really not keen on Jade. For entirely snobby reasons. Sorry.

Surely not analyse! Anna-leese or Anna-leesa much better. I think Sasha is pretty unisex though. I'm not keen on Jade.

Anneliese, definitely.

In German it's pronounced An-na-lee-za (sort of), but I have heard plenty of British girls with the pronunciation An-na-lees.

Sasha Anneliese with either pronunciation is lovely. Jade is an old-fashioned word for a prostitute, and rather harsh and ugly to my ears.

Sasha Annalise.

I don't feel strongly about many things, but I beg you...Annalise is just fabulous! Smile

I now a little girls Sasha, who is fabulous. I've always thought of it as a girls name.

Report
tomverlaine · 01/05/2012 17:39

i thought Sasha could be either a boys or girls name- in Russian it is an abbreviation/diminutive for either Alexander or Alexandra - i have to say I prefer the longer versions.
I thought it was Anna-Lease pronunciation wise

Lol pg brain has actually made me type analyze, not Anna-lease. It's been a long day! Or I could blame it on the iPad and auto correct.!

How old is Jade Jagger? That says a lot about a name if people still associate it with a person 30 some years later! I knew a Jade a few years ago and she was lovely.

I put a post up about Sasha a week or so ago, and most people said Sacha is traditionally a boys name, but is becoming more common for a girl.

Still thinking....

Jade Jagger was born in 1971. I suspect that most people today associate the name with Jade Goody, though, hence the comments about it going downmarket.

Sasha is on my short list for girls, I think it's lovely. And it's so feminine sounding! I know it is technically boy or girl appropriate but I think it's very girly.

If I had chosen, ds would have been Sacha.

It will always be a boys name to me. I still do a double take when people suggest it for girls.
