Baby names

Boaz and Ezra....what do you think????

I am considering both. Already have a boy with an E name, though not sure if that is a problem really!!
Our surname begins with a B so wondering if that rules out Boaz?

So apart from that what do you think of the two names???

Goodness! Have just swallowed the bible? Grin i like both actually, very unusual, very strong male names. I think same first letters for first and surname also go particularly well together.

I second Ezra - I love it! Sounds really manly if that makes sense?
Not sure how to pronounce Boaz so not much help on that one! Blush

I think Ezra is lovely.

I like Boaz too, but wouldn't use it on the currently widespread "Gorillaz" approach to plurals.

Boaz is pronounced kinda how it looks I guess.... Bo Az!

Thanks for the comments so far!

Ezra is a great name. Boaz less so I think.

Ezra has a bit of panache about it.

I think Boaz is a bit clunky. On the right person, it'd be very cool but think it could be a hard name to pull off. So much better than Beau(x)/Bo though!

Ezra is quite cool.
Have you considered Esau? Jacob's twin bro in Genesis.

'And the first came out red, all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau"s heel; and his name was called Jacob'

Maybe if he's a hairy baby that would be a good one!

How do you pronounce Esau? It is quite nice.

I dont know if OP is religious but "Esau" has quite negative connotations from a biblical perspective, but if she isnt then its not an issue.

I think they are both dreadful, sorry. Ezra is a wrinkled old grey haired man's name and Boaz is ugly.

People will think Ezrq's a girl. It's an ignorant thing to think, but they will.

And Boaz is truly awful. Truly.

libelulle · 13/04/2012 18:48

Ezra is lovely but Boaz makes me think of a middle-aged, bearded german man with a large beer belly, sorry!

If people do mistake Ezra for a girls name they will only make the mistake once though! And I cant believe that people would really be that stupid....but maybe.

No to Boaz. Just no.

I like Ezra.

Ezra was on our boys shortlist, along with Nyjah, Enzo and Efryn.

Esau I think is pronounced Ee-saw. Reminds me of an old poem, I saw Esau sitting on a see-saw.

"How do you pronounce Esau? It is quite nice."

How can you possibly think it's "quite nice" if you don't know how to pronounce it????

HappyCamel · 13/04/2012 19:00

Ee-saw , I agree that it's a good option. Esau is nice. No to Boaz though, especially with a B surname. I think there's a risk of kids turning it into Bozo too.

Seeker.....it looks quite nice, for me a name has to look and sound pleasing...does that answer your question my dear?

Please not Boaz. I keep thinking of the MN .

I guess Ezra is ok, but it's a nn in my family tree for something else (like Israel).
