Callie, nice as a nickname but short for...?

My dh loves short names like Callie for girls, and I do too, but I can't help but feel like it should be a nickname. But can anyone help me think of nice names that this would work for? My help hubby and I come to an agreement on a girls name at last!!! Any ideas? Thanks x

I love Callie, can be short for Caroline but I think it works on its own too.

Callisto? She was a nymph in Greek mythology and now a moon or Jupiter. I know one with a sister called Europa (yes they are both named after Jupiter's moons!).

Yes, Caroline is a more mainstream proper name for Callie.

Calpurnia was the housekeeper in To Kill A Mockingbird. Would make a nice change to honour another character for a change! It's always Atticus and Scout!

I immediately thought of Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, the protagonist is called Calliope nn Callie (later Cal when she becomes male, but that needn't affect your decision!)

Calliope is a Greek muse so it might work better if you had Greek heritage though.

My 1st thought was Callista

I'm sort of feeling that names like Calypso and Callista are too "out there" but names like Caroline too plain. I guess I like names somewhere in the middle :p just to be awkward.... haha

I love the name Callie too, have no suggestions though! I would just go for Callie I think, not a fan of Caroline or the more unusual names suggested.

I knew a Carolina (Caroleena not Carol-eye-na)

i think Calliope (ca-lie-oh-pee) is long for Callie. Its a gorgeous name.

I do believe JR's accidental shotgun bride in Dallas was Callie short for Calpurnia .

I really like Carrie, seems quite rare the last few years, eg Carrie-anne

I really like Callie too. I would go for Caroline personally, but as you are not keen I'll second Clarissa. Have come across a posh teenager called Clarissa.
