What are your thoughts on the name Claudia?

We already have a DD Isabella, and I rather think Claudia goes well with it. What do people think, and what suggestions for a second name?

Also do you know any Claudias? I don't, which also appeals as I think its relatively underused.

TIA

would you say it claw or clow?

I really like it. I think it sounds quite glamorous.

I know a Claudia but she is mostly Claudie.

Personally I would go for some without the -a ending, as I think both of them together is a bit much but that is JMO!

I know one, and she is utterly amazing.
Go for it!

I love love love it and will consider it for next baby. Ooooh don't you go start making it popular, now!! Yes it sounds lovely with Isabella, if a little similar. But that's prob why you like it!

The meaning would put me off (Claudus = lame/disabled in Latin).

Prn claw-dia, or cloudier?

Wow! Thanks for the lovely feedback.

Re pronunciation, I think claw-dia, as in Winkleman! I know what you mean about the -a endings, but I'm finding it hard to see past any names without one!

Also loving Claudie as a nn although DH not so keen (but I'll work on that!)

Any ideas for 2nd names. I wondered about Louise?

Adore adore adore!!!!
I was number 2 on my list, but DH wasn't keen as it means 'lame' in latin or something weird.
I also loved Cleodie - pronounced 'cloudy'.

Claudie was a lovely song by a very early Staus Quo: 'Claudie is the place I want to be'.

I like Claw-dia Claudia

Anyone who has ever studied Latin will see the meaning (disabled/crippled or lame) in the name. That would put me off, unfortunately.

I love it. I have a friend called Claudia - pronounced Cloudia.

Clawdia is not so lovely, imo.

I have a Claudia though she's occasionally Claudie or even Claude. She's 11 now & I still adore the name :) (we planned Isabella for a second dd but my brother & SIL got there first - I think they go together beautifully)

LineRunner, do you mean you don't think of the meaning when your Claudia/Claudus or do you mean 'lame/disabled' is a lovely name Confused?

me too (studied Latin) - dd is very interested in the meaning & provenance. She Claw-dia & occasionally gets the Cloudia pronunciation which she doesn't like but apart from that she hasn't had any problems with it.

I think that there is misunderstanding about the actual meaning of the name Claudius. The paterfamilias Claudii were hugely powerful in Rome in the late Republic and early Empire.

I love it. I used to teach a Claudia - but DH vetoed it and I wasn't allowed. Sad. But if I divorced him, then I'd use it Grin

Julio-Claudian imperial dynasty, anyone?

"Claudia: From a Roman family name which was derived from Latin claudus meaning "lame, crippled". This was the family name of several Roman emperors of the 1st century, including the emperor known simply as Claudius. He was poisoned by his wife Agrippina in order to bring her son Nero (Claudius's stepson) to power."

Not a great association. But perhaps you're not bothered by this. As you asked for opinions, I thought I'd share my thougts.
