It suddenly dawned on me today that it is actually a nice name.

Quick internet search it is a 'proper' names as well.

Am I being ridiculous? It isn't that different from calling your DD Emerald or Amber or Cherry or Jade? is it?

The only thing is with Abney and Teal being popular on cbeebies these days it might come across a bit like calling your child 'Igglepiggle' iyswim... but other than that I do kinda like it, cos I like the colour teal and the sound is quite nice

I love it ----BUT it's very NOW what with Abney and Teal on Cbeebies which has been a big hit with parents.

My DS was entranced to learn, today, that "Teal" was a colour! Smile And a nice one, too...

My ds would be sooo impressed to meet a real life Teal. I'm not sure what I think of it as a name tbh. I don't hate it, but I don't love it.

My first thought was of the duck (whose wing-colour gave the name to the shade), so I don't see it like other colour names (and indeed would have expected it to be a boys name - though Duckie in NCIS was named from Mallard as a surname).

I know a dog called Teal. Not sure why as it's a very ordinary black dog colour!

It's quite pretty though

I like it, like the colour, like the name, think its very pretty and unusual but not unheard of iykwim but I guess there is the risk of everyone at the moment associating it with cbeebies (if they have kids) - quite possibly that doesn't bother you and tbh I dont know if it would bother me... Smile

I would think of the duck, sorry.

It doesn't sound like a person to me - I'd have no idea if it was for a boy or a girl. I don't think it is ridiculous, just a bit odd.

It's a duck. That was my first thought. Or a colour.

I think its really pretty, but like previous posters, I do think it will rise in popularity

Never heard of it, but it sounds quite 'masculine' so why not?

I know of a girl called Teal.

I also know a couple of named their daughter after a particular shade of blue, not in common use as a first name. They announced it before she was born, and everyone said 'like the colour?'. At first they liked that and nodded enthusiastically, but before she was 3 months old they had switched to using her middle name. Obviously just one example, but I'd think hard about what it will really be like (and of course everyone will ask the child the same question for their whole life).

I really like it (wonders if there is an urdu version....)

It's not a name it's a colour. To me it's no different than naming a baby "yellow" or "magenta".

Colour, duck.

I love the colour but it's not a name to me.
