Baby names

It may kill me to say it - 'hippy' names - any help please if you can

DS is Storm Leaf Edward Wolf Surname

DC2 needs at least a name kind of like DS1. But as DS1 is named (exactually) for someone dear to me - we just added the Edward in. Don't think it needs to be as 'hippy' like.
I have a name like DS while DP has a very 'normal' name

For the one traditional name, Timothy for a boy and Mary for a girl.

So we need a fn and 2 more mns.

Ohh and thank you for the replies to the other threads - very helpful.

Our roughish shortlist:

Boys:

Moon
Silas
Ty
Trey
Trip
Jackson
Arlo
Blaze
Shadow
Echo
Rain

Girls:

Scarlett
Dusk
Melody
Harmony
Saffron
Echo
Moon
River
Skye

I think some of your names might be a little tricky - Moon, Wind and Trip in particular! (Star, on the other hand would work, as would Cosmo or a constellation name).

Silas - makes me think of the literary Marner
Ty - not keen
Trey - again not keen, sorry
Jackson - nice name, but fairly mainstream at the moment
Arlo - lovely
Blaze - prefer the spelling Blaise, and think that's lovely
Shadow - Gladiator?
Echo - wasn't she a nymph in the myths?
Rain - too like the girls name Raine
Felix - lovely, but mainstream
Ocean - not keen

Scarlett - very mainstream, but a good name
Dusk - not sure
Melody - currently screams Doctor Who, but that might not endure
Harmony - hair colour
Saffron - nice, but a bit 60s/ AbFab
Echo - OK
River - like, but again screams Doctor who
Skye - OK
Ziva - like
Zillah - wonderful, but possibly to hard to live with (Godzilla, bridezilla)
Zilpah - not so keen
Willa - OK
Willow - OK

How about other colour names? Blue, Indigo, Magenta, Alizarin?

It's a bit common now, but how about Seren if you have a girl? It's the Welsh word for 'Star'. You could probably get away with quite a few hippy names if you translated them into welsh or gaelic.

Blaze and Shadow sound like dog or horse names. Trey reminds me of 1960s TV puppets. Echo just leaves him open for some horrendous jibes at school.

Not keen on Dusk or the Z names - they see a little bit 'trying too hard'.

Trip is very American. Isn't t traditionally used as a nickname fir a third genrtation son of an 'old' name family

Also hippies may view trip in a, y'know, acid kind of way
, there was a 'nature names' thread a whole ago. I'll see if I xan find it

Was going to suggest Serendipity before worldgonecrazy suggested seren ... Nice short form with a hippyish long version???

Like Arlo best for a boy.

Add in Blaise for a girl?

I wish I'd had your courage, you can get some really beautiful combinations from your selection!

Boys:

Moon - like it. Not as a first name though
Silas - not overly keen, sounds like sly to me
Ty - don't like it, sounds a bit gangster!
Trey - interesting.
Trip - Not very name-like somehow
Jackson - Like it
Arlo - Like it
Blaze - Not keen, a bit too tough guy
Shadow - Love it but not as a first name
Echo - Love it
Rain - Love it but possibly more for a girl??
Felix - Love it
Ocean - I like it but think of it as a girl's name (though only know of one!)
Wind - no, because of the rude connotations kids would make

Girls:

Scarlett - it's ok.
Dusk - Lovely. Middle name material I think
Melody - Not keen
Harmony - Not keen
Saffron - Love it
Echo - Love it
Moon - nice as a middle name
River - Like it
Skye - really like it
ziva - not keen, it's quite hard to say
Zillah - really like it
Zilpah - not as keen as without the P
Willa - very pretty
Willow - like it

For a boy I think I'd choose:
Echo Arlo Timothy Moon or Felix Echo Timothy Rain

For a girl I like:
Saffron Mary Willow Skye or Zillah Saffron Mary Dusk or Willow River Mary Skye

Have taken out the nos

Silas - Like
Ty - Like this, but too short by itself
Arlo - This is number one for me!
Blaze
Shadow
Rain - Like this
Felix - Like, but quite trendy, so not really hippyish
Ocean - Like this a lot

Scarlett - Know loads of these
Melody
Harmony
Saffron
Echo - Like a lot
River
Skye
Zillah - Like this
Willa - Love this
Willow

You should definitely have a look at some Welsh names, some are very naturey and beautiful.

Arlo Silas Timothy Rain or Arlo Silas Timothy Ocean

Willa Saffron Mary Skye or Zillah Mary Echo Skye

Boys:
Blaise Arlo Timothy Jackson or
Silas Arlo Timothy Jackson.
I would use Blaise instead of Blaze as it's an old name though it sounds hippyish.

I would avoid Trip on the grounds that it is Palinesque. Ty is very downmarket.
Girls:
Saffron Echo Mary Zillah or
Willow Zilpah Mary Saffron or
Willa Echo Mary Ziva or
Zilpah Saffron Mary Willow or
Echo Saffron Mary Willa

Oooh I love your son's name! One of mine has the middle name Wolf and is know as Wolfie :)
Out of your shortlist I love Ty Silas Timothy Arlo and for a girl Melody Saffron Mary Skye.

Just as a suggestion people always say that our DSs have quite hippyish names and they are Heath Cassian, Darwin Silas, Gabriel Wolf, Shay Orlando and Hendrix Jeremiah. My absolute favourite girl's name is Hero, that might fit in as well
