for a girl ,

HavingAnOffDAy Tue 25-Oct-11 17:48:55

Hotel in Liverpool, was on a really bad TV series...sorry!

TonksmarriedaWerewolf Tue 25-Oct-11 17:49:13

We had a building called that at Uni.

ScaredtheDeesusOutofMe Tue 25-Oct-11 17:50:23

Never heard that used as a person's name before. My first thought was there's a pub near me called the Adelphi...and isn't it the name of a theatre...?

going Tue 25-Oct-11 17:50:55

Seems like it's a boys name. Makes me think of a theatre or hotel.

ScaredtheDeesusOutofMe Tue 25-Oct-11 17:51:02

xpost with havingAnOffDay

It's the hotel I was thinking of!

Rollon2012 Tue 25-Oct-11 17:58:09

Oh dear lol maybe a bad choice

QueenVictoria42 Tue 25-Oct-11 18:25:32

I think of it as a theatre. Why not just drop the A and go for Delphi or Delphine or even Delphina?

breatheslowly Tue 25-Oct-11 18:53:36

Theatre. Or a bit too much like Adolf.

Greenwing Tue 25-Oct-11 19:56:51

Definitely a theatre.

mathanxiety Tue 25-Oct-11 20:19:23

Cinema in Dublin.

WitchesBroomForMyChin Tue 25-Oct-11 20:21:11

Was a very grungy/scruffy club where I went to uni.

GetOrfMo1Land Tue 25-Oct-11 20:26:04

I really like it, however due to the connotations of pubs etc it may be better to go for Delphi.

Rollon2012 Tue 25-Oct-11 21:31:58

hmmm Delphi is interesting

RickGhastley Tue 25-Oct-11 21:39:21

Delphi is very very nice.

Adelphi is a Liverpool theatre/hotel.

meditrina Tue 25-Oct-11 21:47:55

The Adelphi is a theatre. If you're really unlucky, people might take it as a place of conception name...

Delphine, on the other hand, is lovely. And the "dolphin" playground nn isn't inevitable or necessarily durable.

Panzee Tue 25-Oct-11 21:51:27

Delphine Donkey might be though. EEAW! (sorry) grin

chipmonkey Tue 25-Oct-11 22:59:59

Scruffy cinema in Dublin which closed down when newer, more modern cinemas came in.

BustersOfDoom Tue 25-Oct-11 23:14:00

Office block in central London, a hotel in Liverpool and a pub in most cities.

MooncupGoddess Tue 25-Oct-11 23:16:15

Adelphi means 'brothers' in Greek - that's where the original Adelphi in London comes from (built by the Adam brothers). So, very odd choice for a girl.

Fixture Wed 26-Oct-11 00:25:38

A theatre.

How about Adele, or Delphine?

HerdOfTinyElephants Wed 26-Oct-11 00:30:52

Delphi/Delphine/Adele are all fine (Delphi a little off-the-wall, but that's not necessarily a bad thing).

Adelphi is a theatre or a hotel. Or a pub, at a push.
