Love Luna but think most people will think of lunatic, Nell - not keen, Lena's ok

I really like Luna, but it would always make me think of Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter. She even is called Loony Lovegood by some of the children.

I prefer Nell to Lena.

They all put me in mind of a slightly anaemic girl with stringy hair and clammy hands.

Are these nicknames or actual names? I think they all work well as NNs but not as full names, but that's just my opinion. Not keen on Luna, though.

DD has a name which can be abbreviated to two of the names on your list (one of which we use) but I wouldn't have given them as stand-alone names.

...so when I say 'they all work well', what I mean is not all. [hgrin]

Luna makes me think of Lunatic orr Loony plus Luna Lampard

Lena is ok but Elena is nicer

Nell is nice as a nn for Eleanor but kids would think of Nelly the Elephant

sorry - don't like any all make me think of negative things - probably just me though....

Luna - I think looney,
Nell -I think Nelly, right Nelly, Nelly the elephant - ok if the child is skinny, but should she have any extra weight at all... mmmm (or Nell the poor girl in the film of the same name),
Lena - I think anorexic Lena Zavaroni

I like Nell the best, than Lena. Luna does make me think Loony, sorry. I know a nice little Lua though?

I love Nell as a nn for Helena.
I like Luna, but the lunatic thing would put me off.
Not keen on Lena.

I like Nell and Lena.

Luna has a nice meaning but agree the lunatic thing is offputting.

Lana is nice too.

Lana
Lyra
Lara

I like all of these more .... (sorry)

Call her Helena and then you can see whether Lena or Nell - my favourite - works best. Fantastic names!

Luna just makes me sigh. Cliched hippie name IMO.

Lena is nice and there wont be loads of them around.

I like Nell but she will forever be asked what it is short for never been keen on Luna

Leonie is another nice one - my dds friend is a Leonie, "shortened" to Lennie

I love Luna, it's on my shortlist, but I am worried about the lunatic thing. Particularly if she marries someone with a C surname! Otherwise Nell is lovely, but not keen on Lena - bit harsh and 3rd Reich for me (but I think I'm thinking of Leni Riefenstahl, ignore me!)

I like Lena best, not keen on the other too. Luna is a bit too much like lunatic/loony, and Nell seems very old-fashioned, more of a nickname and not very attractive look/sound.

Leonie is absolutely lovely, if you like 'L' names. Or Leona, Lara, Lana, Leila?

I like Lena and Nell. Luna = Lunatic, for me, I am afraid.
