Baby names

Why are girls names so much harder??

Kayzr · 18/10/2011 17:29

Only 5 weeks with DC3 but I want to think about names already. I have 2 boys, we have a boys name picked out but got a huge list of girls names.

If it is a girl her middle name will be Jean. Its my middle name, my mums, my nans etc etc so I would like to continue it. Surname is McCall(please no Davina suggestions [hgrin])

So here is the list.

Annabella/Anabella
Arabella
Amelie
Amber
Aurora
Beatrice
Cecilia
Daisy
Evelyn
Elsie
Felicity
Florence (Great nans name)
Hazel
Isabella(going off this now)
Lucille
Meredith
Noelle
Penelope
Rosalie
Serena
Serenity
Sierra
Sofia/Sophia
Vivienna
Viviana

See its a huge list, DP's favourite is Arabella and I am not really sure which is my favourite. I don't want something hugely popular which is why I have gone off Isabella as I know 3 that have been born in the last month.

Help please!!

Lots of lovely names there :)

Top 6 would be Aurora, Amber, Cecilia, Daisy, Florence, Sophia :) These would all go nicely with Jean as middle name.

Also like Annabella (though I prefer Annabel), Arabella, Beatrice, Evelyn (though Evie names v. popular), Elsie, Felicity, Isabella (again v. popular), Penelope, Rosalie and Serena.

And the others...

Amelie - a bit faddy, prefer Amelia
Hazel - don't like
Lucille - prefer Lucy
Meredith - OK
Noelle - too male as Noel more popular than Noelle
Serenity - Serena nicer and less obviously virtuous
Sierra - a type of Ford car
Vivienna - a bit harsh, and why not just Vivienne?
Viviana - as above

Kayzr · 18/10/2011 18:08

Fixture, Vivienna was meant to be Vivienne. Didn't notice the typo until just then.

Quite a few of yours are a bit too frilly for me eg Arabella, Serenity, Vivienna.

I like:

Beatrice
Cecilia - but prefer Cecily. Cecily Jean McCall sounds awesome
Evelyn
Felicity
Hazel
Meredith
Penelope
Serena
Sophia

Annabella/Anabella - Prefer just Annabel methinks
Arabella - not keen
Amelie - bit 'trendy' at the moment, think Rachel Steven's daughter is this? Love Elodie though?
Amber - Used to think it a bit bleugh, but now quite like it.
Aurora - are you giving birth to a Disney princess? ;) Not my cup of char...
Beatrice - Prefer Beatrix but do you really want BJ as initials?
Cecilia - you're breaking my heart, you're shaking my confidence daily... not a fan :)
Daisy - cute, but essentially a weed. How about Poppy?
Evelyn - Lovely lovely
Elsie - lovely lovely
Felicity - nope
Florence (Great nans name) - bit faddy atm (imo) But nice to honour family member...
Hazel - never understand the popularity of this name, to my ears sounds so harsh. To my ears, I'm not trying to start a war... :)
Isabella(going off this now) - beautiful but done to death and all variants of it
Lucille - Lucy or Lucia are better in my opinion
Meredith - Like this, pretty spunky name :)
Noelle - no
Penelope - love this
Rosalie - meh
Serena - no
Serenity - well it will be an ironic choice at 3am when she's had u up 6 times ;)
Sierra - always makes me want to say 'Leone' after it. Dont like that connotation.
Sofia/Sophia - See Isabella comment
Vivienna - nope
Viviana - not keen

Penelope is gorgeous and PJ cute initials :)

Love Elsie & Rosalie. Like Lucille & Evelyn very much too.

I disagree that girls are harder though, I could name ten girls happily right now, it's boys names that I find much harder to pin down -they all seem over-popular or out there and try-hard to me!

What are your DSs called?

Report
Kayzr · 19/10/2011 09:49

The DSs are Freddie and Dylan.

Ooh I love your list! Very similar to our options :)

My favourites are Arabella, Amber, Felicity, Hazel and Meredith.

I know that you haven't asked for more ideas but we had some on our lust which are along the sane lines as some of yours. How about Sienna, Verity, Ramona or Heidi?

Arabella is a bit try hard, especially compared to Freddie and Dylan. I see your boys names as a bit 'cooler' for want of a better word.

I think Sofia, Rosalie or Meredith as fitting better.

usingapseudonym · 19/10/2011 19:40

We like Beatrice!

I wouldn't go Sophia as its really quite popular at the moment.

Love love love Beatrice or Beatrix as I love Bea as a nn.

Think I would go with

Beatrice Serenity Jean

or

Beatrice Annabella Jean

as Beatrice Jean does not seem to flow as well so I would give her 3 names.

If you went with Arabella, would you shorten it to Bella? I almost prefer Arabella to Bella tbh.
I do love the suggestion of Cecily Jean but other than that my favourite from your list is Daisy.

You're further ahead than we are - I have no idea for a boy or a girl!
