Baby names

Would you use names that are already a pair?

When we were expecting DS we had a final name for each sex that we loved. We decided we'd use the girl's name if we had a DD next.

Since then we've found out that there's a comic which is named after it's two main characters, ie "Bill and Jane", and they are DS's name with a minor spelling difference and favourite girl's name with a minor spelling difference.

So now we don't think we can use it if it turns out DC2 is a girl.

But we really love it...

Would you use it?

The comic is French, and although it's not super popular there (although it's been rereleased and there's a cartoon, so it might go up) all our French relatives and friends now know about it because of DS's name, which is also quite uncommon, so to them at least it would look really contrived and like we'd done it deliberately. Plus we'll be moving back to France in a few years and then they'll be at school with it.

Gah, I'm so annoyed...

If you are moving back I wouldn't do it.

It's a shame if you love the names but I wouldn't put for example Rosie and Jim or Tom and Jerry together as a sibling set. The inevitable haha comments would get too annoying.

Yes, good point comparing it to R&J or T&J. I hadn't thought of it like that as they're not so popular, but if they do get more popular then it could be the same.

Time for a new list then...

A bit like Charlie and Lola or Peppa and George?

Still much less well known and aimed at teenagers/adults - so more like Will and Grace, but yes, definitely a pair, you wouldn't mention one without the other. Bugger, we totally can't use it

I know a Bill and Ted and yes some people are a bit Confused but I wouldn't let it stop you if you love the name!

We didn't choose one of the names we loved because it was from a well known pairing, which was a shame but I think if every time I introduced the DC to someone they said 'oh, you must have really liked that book/film...' it would have driven me mad!

Thanks everyone. I think we are going to shelve it, it would drive me crazy having people ask, like SewWhat says.

Thanks again! :)

I sympathise. I have a little Robin and I love Rosie if we ever had a second DD. But Robin and Rosie were the little twins from the Cockleshell Bay animated series in the 80s. Not sure if the memory of Robin and Rosie has now disappeared now though.
