Is it too "old womany", or, is it cool? I can't decide. :)

my aunt wanted to name her daughter Elsie after a favourite pretend auntie (her mum's friend) but hubby thought it was too Granny-ish so they went for Elise instead which I think is lovely

My fav girl name is actually Eloise, however, it does seem to gaining in popularity (not that there is anything wrong with that), therefore, thought Elsie would be a bit more unusual.

Hate the name. Sorry. I love Elise and Eloise though, softer sounding and much nicer.

I think it's cool. DD1 had a very sweet little friend at nursery called Elsie. However, we gave it to DD2 as a mn and most people were like Hmm

Love Elsie, very sweet! Like it as a nn for Elspeth too

If you prefer Eloise (I do too) then use that. Elsie could become very popular too in which case you'd have compromised on name for no reason!

They call her Natasha when she looks like Elsie
I don't want to go to Chelsea

[Elvis Costello song. I'm very old.] FWIW I like the name.

I'm even older than you, LimburgseVlaai.

I used to have a girlfriend known as Elsie
With whom I shared two squalid rooms in Chelsea
She wasn't what you'd call a blushing flow-er
As a matter of fact she rented by the hour ...

I love it, I would have loved to have called DD2 Elsie but DH said no!

BonnieWeeJeannieMcCall · 12/10/2011 23:24

BTW I like the name, too, but it does make me think of Cabaret.

I think of Elsie to this very day
I remember how she used to laugh and say
Life is a cabaret, my friend.....
