Boy's Shortlist: First Draft

Hello

I feel like a bit of a fraud posting on here as I don't actually have my BFP yet (although AF is two days late so here's hoping...!!) but being the organised sort I would like to have my shortlist ready and prepared so that I can start badgering OH to agree with my choices discussing the list with OH as soon as we feel confident that DC will be joining us. Your opinions shall be gratefully accepted!

This is what I am looking for in a name:

  1. Our surname starts with a "W" so want to avoid names ending in "S", "T", "Th" etc as those sounds blend with the W too easily making it sound like one word (if that makes any sense at all Confused!)
  2. Nothing too popular - preferably outside the top 50 but if I love the name it won't matter where it is
  3. Nothing too obviously traditional (eg David or John)
  4. Something a little quirky will be fine (within reason!)
  5. Nothing to faddy/latest trend (if you see what I mean)

Here's the list - if you have any other suggestions please let me know!

  1. Abraham
  2. Elijah
  3. Isaac (this doesn't really work with Rule 1)
  4. Jamie (I'm not keen on James for some reason (plus it falls foul of rule 1!) but I love Jamie)
  5. Josiah
  6. Mark (ditto Rule 1 issue)
  7. Ned
  8. Reuben
  9. Stanley

10. Toby
11. Tristan

Many thanks in advance!

I like Elijah, Isaac and Josiah from your list most. Elijah and Isaac were on our short list too, along with Joseph (doesn't quite fit with rules 2 and 3 though), Eli, and Nathaniel if they are of any interest.

Love Elijah, Josiah and Abraham. They are great, strong and not over used names. I quite like Reuben and Isaac , but they are more popular. Stanley is quite trendy as it follows the trend for using old man / old woman names and it is quite cute, but because it's trendy I think it'll date.

The only issue I have with Josiah is that the inevitable nickname is Joe, and I know tonnes of Joes.

I do love Abraham and I like the nickname Abe, although I read on another thread that an Abraham got called Hammy at school which I wouldn't like at all!

Nathaniel was the name of the bully in my class at school so that really puts me off! Irrational I know, as it is a nice name.

OP I have a Josiah (hence why I love it as a name) and he doesn't get called Joe. If his name is shortened, it's to Jos. Most people call him Josiah.

Oh, never thought of Jos (durr - it's the first three letters of the name!) Do you pronounce that Joz or Joss?

Joss. But to be honest, he's usually just called Josiah. We liked the name because although it's unusual, if for example as a teenager, he hates having an unusual name, he canm use Joe or Joss or Joz as a nn.

Stanley is very of the moment, I know quite a few born recently. I am not keen on it at all, little bit on the common side. Grin Quite like Reuben from your list.

Reuben is great, Stanley is very common at the moment and Toby is my ginger cat :)
