any thoughts on this as a first name for DS1?... thanking you.

I like it but would never give it to a DC because Iago was a baddie.

mamsnet Tue 27-Sep-11 15:23:55

Yago? Yago is lovely, the short form of Santiago (James in Spanish)

Never heard of Jago. Are you sure it's a name?

GwendolineMaryLacey Tue 27-Sep-11 15:24:44

Lovely, Cornish isn't it? Or popular in Cornwall. Not the same as Iago, you pronounce the J.

mamsnet Tue 27-Sep-11 15:27:32

Just checked that.. I stand corrected.

It is indeed a Cornish variant of James.

Nice name, unusual but not trying to hard imo.

OhBuggerandArse Tue 27-Sep-11 15:37:47

If you are Cornish, ace. if not, not.

MirandaGoshawk Tue 27-Sep-11 15:39:17

I like it smile

steamedtreaclesponge Tue 27-Sep-11 15:41:14

To me it just says 'slum' - as in the novel 'A Child of the Jago' about the slums of East London (just round the corner from where I live now). It's also the name of a steampunk shop in East London.

So fine if you live in Cornwall, less so if you live near me!

LoveInAColdClimate Tue 27-Sep-11 15:47:21

I like it, and all the Jagos I know are lovely.

belgo Tue 27-Sep-11 15:51:45

Santiago means Saint James. Diego and Tiago are the more day to day versions.

I like the name Jago.

CaptainNancy Tue 27-Sep-11 15:52:27

I liked it until I read what steamedtreaclesponge wrote! grin

Scoundrel Tue 27-Sep-11 15:54:19

If I'd had a boy he'd have been Jago. I didn't have a boy, but I did have a boy dog grin

RickGhastley Tue 27-Sep-11 17:44:15
