We are a bit quirky ourselves and already have two DC (Shiloh Phoebe and Asa James) so would like a similar name to theirs BUT we don't know if Zev is too far? I do have Jewish heritage but that wouldn't be clear since we don't have a Jewish surname..what do you think?!

PippiLongBottom Tue 20-Sep-11 17:20:40

I like it. I love Asa too.

scarlettlips Tue 20-Sep-11 17:20:57

Is it short for anything? Not super keen but with Shiloh and Asa sounds quite good.

Bunbaker Tue 20-Sep-11 17:22:34

Stupid question, but how do you pronounce Asa? Ayssa or Assa? Zev is OK but sounds like it is an abbreviation for something else.

hmm i can't decide if i like it or not. although i prob wouldn't bat an eyelid if I came across a baby Zev.
certainly don't think it would be cruel

we have an Asa too btw, tis a fab name grin

I like it. I might assume it was an abbreviation though.

Zev is cool, I like it.

RickGhastley Tue 20-Sep-11 18:02:12

Zev sounds really good next to your other DC's names.

Not to my taste but definitely quirky without sounding ridiculous or made up.

Sounds great with the others and would be very nice in light of your heritage despite the lack of accompanying surname.

upatdawn Tue 20-Sep-11 19:26:37

Not at all, it sounds lovely with your other DC's names.

Catsycat Tue 20-Sep-11 20:34:27

Always interested in new "Z" names (well, ones I haven't heard before), having 2 "Z" DDs!!! I think it sounds good, esp with your other DC names. Certainly not cruel, have heard much, much, muuuuch worse!!!!!

festiemum Tue 20-Sep-11 20:37:09

Lovely! Think it really goes with your other two as well! smile

battherat Tue 20-Sep-11 20:37:16

It's great. Go for it.

MissWilde Tue 20-Sep-11 21:43:38

Great name, go for it!

DashingRedhead Tue 20-Sep-11 21:51:47

It all depends on surname. And he will not thank you for first name that only sounds good amongst siblings' names. Are you thinking Zevedee or is it just Zev? Is that like Jack on a birth cert?

TwolittleLyons Tue 20-Sep-11 21:58:53

DashingRedhead our surname is Lyon. Also it is just Zev on it's own. It's a Hebrew name and not short for anything, unlike Jack which could be John (?) or Jackson.

My DD2 (aged 2) does swimming with a little Xav and does Little Gym with a little Lev. So Zev would fit right in to London trends.

TBH the similarity to Xav(ier) would put me off a little. Also it is a very orthodox Jewish sounding name and I do think it is slightly strange to have a very Jewish name for a not very Jewish child (I just googled Zev and got straight to the page of a Rabbi called Zev Leff).

Apparently it means Wolf. Why not just go with Wolf?!

festiemum Wed 21-Sep-11 12:38:40

I guess that's why I like it; my DS is Xavier! smile

lchodge Wed 21-Sep-11 15:51:23

It doesn't look or sound like a name to me. I'd think it was a typo if I seen it written down. If you say it out loud it sounds like your saying 'Seth' but can't pronounce it properly.

threeandcounting73 Wed 21-Sep-11 18:57:20

There's no reason not to, but it's not great.

NotJustKangaskhan Wed 21-Sep-11 19:13:00

I love it! My DS1 has Zevi as his second name in Hebrew and I think it's a lovely name that works well in both Hebrew and English. Zev Lyon (Wolf and Lion) would probably make me grin smile.

TwolittleLyons Wed 21-Sep-11 21:34:15

Forgot it would be Wolf Lion!

CitizenOscar Wed 21-Sep-11 21:35:56

I really like it smile

Love it!
