Baby names

Liberty as a middle name?

Tell me honestly, does it sound chavvy?

Really struggling for a middle name for baby if she's a girl. I've my heart set on Cara as the first name. DD1 has a family name as her middle name that has been passed down the generations. So if I have another girl I'd like her middle name to be meaningful too. No family names go nicely with Cara (except my own, but feel a bit egoist using it Smile )

So as an alternative I've been trying to think of other things meaningful to DH and I. For many reasons New York City is an important place to us (don't worry, baby not concieved there Grin ) and so was thinking maybe Liberty (as in statue of...)

DH wasn't overly keen but I'm stuck! Unless anyone has any other NYC themed suggestions?

Thank you!

I think it is fine as a middle name, especially with the NYC connection.

Or Tiffany?

My sister's middle name is Harmony.

DD's (due soon) middle name will be the name of the village where DH and I first lived after we got together. Fortunately, it is also a normal girl's name...

Liberty is pretty and has a nice meaning. I like Tiffany too.

Other New York names...

Madison (as in square)
Apple :o
Delancey (street name and French girls' name)
Seneca

I'm not keen on Liberty, but how often do you really use/say a middle name.

I prefer Tiffany.

I like Liberty also because it has been the year of the Arab Spring and people rising up for their liberty.

Liberty is lovely, really lovely :)

However I used my name as my DDs middle name and thought at the time of doing it that its a bit up myself but I did it as I truly love the name and DH and others said I was being silly. Eeeeek am I infact up my own bum Blush ahhhh too late now and I do love how my DDs name go together :)

I've an extremely posh friend with this name so have never thought of it as 'chavvy'! Grin

I'm loving the Apple suggestion! Some more New York related names:

Brooklyn
Chrysler Grin
Hudson
Lexington

MelinaM and I probably have the same friend - very posh, very bright. I think the name is lovely too.

The Libby I know is very middle class and a sweety.
DD1's middle name my first name. I thought it was a bit egotistical too. However, it works DH liked it and me and his sister both have the same middle name and are both called after our mums. So it's sort of a tradition.

George Osborne's dd is called Liberty Kate. I know that will turn some people right off, but I luuurve that combo.

That family is not too chavvy.

Thanks for the replies!

I should add that DD1 has technically already been named after me, as we both have the 'family middle name', I'm not saying people are egotistical for naming their children after themselves (as I've already done it) but think it might look odd if both my children are named after me Smile

I'm liking Maddison, may suggest it to DH, along with Apple of course Grin

Liberty is an absolutely gorgeous name. Nice to have a name ith a bit of a story behind it, too. Noting it down in hope of having another DC in the future, thank you!

I don't think that middle names matter hugely - in general it's the combination that's important. So for me the important consideration would be whether I thought Cara Liberty yoursurname sounded good.

Good connections/meanings would be important too, but just not the primary concern.
