Baby names

Oenone for a girl, Inigo for a boy

This is probably a pointless thread as is purely hypothetical, however I had a pregnancy scare in January and if I had been pregnant, it would have been due about now.

Still feel a bit wistful about it now.

ANYWAY I thought I would risk the MN baby name wrath and see what you would think of my choices

Girl
Oenone
Iris
Artemis
Ariadne
Hera

Boy
Inigo
Albert
Idris

What do you think?

how do you stop saying oenonenoenoenoen...............??

I like Albert a lot (doesn't work with our surname!) also Iris is nice.

Oenone runs into the issue of having always to ask how it's pronounced (how is it pronounced?) which is not a good thing in general.

Artemis is rather fine, hunter goddess, but perhaps rather out there as a name. Hera ditto.

Inigo sounds like Indigo which has become relatively popular as a girls' name (yes, I know about Inigo Jones, but still).

Reality that's what I thought of, also love the name!

I love the name Oenone! Actually all the names on your girl's list, except Iris.

Inigo is great, the other boy's names are OK.

Grin Reality. Yes you have to have a girl - I remember your baby names threads at the start of the pregnancy, when you were full of love for Edith, Martha and the like.

Oenone is ee-no-nee (nickname Noni probably). Yes I know pronunciation is a bugger but it's so PRETTY.

I like greek names for a girl as my dd has a greek name and I like to keep a theme (why? I don't know)

I LOVE Inigo because my surname is Jones and I think that is a cool name.

What do you all mean by Inigo Montoya?

Its from the film ?The Princess Bride? one of my favourite films of all time so yes, Inigo gets .y vote!

PivotPivotPIVOT · 07/09/2011 21:34

Oh I haven't seen Princess Bride for ages, my DP has never seen it and it is on my list to buy and make him watch it.

I know what you mean now.

Umm, no. Just... no.

I like Inigo, but Oenone is a rather unappealing character in Racine's Phedre. She's a devoted servant who makes a false accusation of rape to cover up her mistress's guilt, then ends up throwing herself off a cliff.

Iris and Albert have my vote...sound great together so I suggest you should have twins! Wink
Good luck if you are TTC. Smile

Iris. Hate the others.
Idris if you're Welsh. Otherwise Albert.

Oh Viola - I knew she was a character in Phedre but had no idea what she got up to! Yes that is rather offputting, I rather like the original Greek myth link to wine Grin

DP would hate Oenone anyway, he looked at me blankly when I told him and said it is just a random collection of vowels.

Maryz you are right - when I think of all the grandiose names I thought of when I was pregnant with dd (Cassiopeia, Cassandra, Angelica, Pheonicia Hmm) and she ended up with a very normal name - Sophia.

I am very broody at the moment I must admit and DP has wanted a baby for ages. However life has been a nightmare this year so I doubt we will tbh.

You should hear DP's names - Ra, Osiris, Ramses.

We are NORMAL people btw Grin, not maniacs.

Inigo is fantastic, but poor Oenone is condemned to a lifetime of people looking blank and saying 'What?'
What about Undine or Ondine?

OOH Ondine. That reminds me of my fictional twins (Odette and Odile).

I do wish this place had a [twat] emoticon because I would apply it to myself.

Thanks Maryz Smile. I do wander up the baby aisle in Sainsbos and look longingly at the tubs of sudocrem and nappies Hmm.

PLUS my dd is nearly 16. Look at all the new stuff they make. I can buy all sorts of completely unecessary crap like heated baby wipes containers.

It would be lovely. I look like some weirdo smiling at strangers' babies at the moment.

Oneoneoene or whatever it is sounds like onanism which is self pleasuring Grin
I do like Iris and Inigo. I knew an Inigo, he was lovely. He was pronounced In-ee-go rather than Mr Pipkin who was In-i-go.

For the first time I understand what it's like to not be Irish and confronted with Caoimhe and Saoirse!

How the hell do you pronounce Oenone? Confused

Soory this isn't a real baby names thread too. My post sounds horrible!

I have a list of fantasy baby names too. Farah is my girl's name.
