I love the name Arthur but really don't like Art/Arty as a nn. Are there any other nn's, please?

My grandad was called Arthur, but bizarrely everyone called him Norman.

The only other Arthur I know is never shortened, he's just Arthur.

Why do you need a nickname?

The nn for Arthur is Art or Artie.

But yes, why do you need a nn? As I say on mn every time people want to give a baby a nn even before it's born - how can this be pre-ordained? A nn is something that should develop naturally, not be organised in advance!

Ummm - definitely not keen on Norman!!!!

We are a kind-of nickname family and my other two boys have their names shortened. But you are right, if DC3 is a boy (which I am assuming it is!!), he could just be Arthur!

My Dad is Arthur, he gets called Arth, Arch, Archie, Art or just plain old Arthur.

I think it's short enough not to need a nickname.

One of the meanings of Arthur is 'bear' so, maybe when he was little, he could be Bear?

I am clutching at straws I know....

Our Arthur is sometimes called Bear too (although MIL did suggest wart?!). Or Arturo (said with mock Italian flourish!)
