yogabird Fri 02-Sep-11 20:10:26

No, No, No!

I worked with a lantern jawed, feeble, acne ridden Troy once - how far from his mother's expectations did he end up, I wonder?

popcornchicken Fri 02-Sep-11 20:13:08

but if u didnt meet this troy would you of liked the name all the names i mention somebody knows a horrible one grin .

RueyBoey Fri 02-Sep-11 20:15:34

Reminds me of Troy (the one with the horse) so don't really like it. If you like 'different' names but still ones people know/spell/say what about ones like:

I like it, i knew a Troy when i was a teenager and it really suited him, if you like it then go for it (don't listen to anyone else).

I like Troy. Also like Quinn. Simple, masculine and easy to say/spell.

I knew a female Troy. Not sure whether I like it or dislike it to be honest. I think it is ok.

High School Musical is all I think when I hear it although it is lovely!

When I was pregnant with DD I, convinced she was going to be a boy, decided to call her Troy. DH wouldn't allow it and it clashed hilariously with our last name. Probs a good thing she popped out as a girl then!

yogabird Sat 03-Sep-11 08:55:19

you may be right. THe important thing is whether you like it

PuppyMonkey Sat 03-Sep-11 08:57:20

DP's fitness instructor is called Troy. It suits a big musclebound bruiser somehow.

CandiceMariePratt Sat 03-Sep-11 09:14:26

Not keen

redglow Sat 03-Sep-11 16:10:44

I like Troy Trey and Trent. I do not imagine a wimpy boy to be called Troy.

HengshanRoad Sat 03-Sep-11 16:23:04

Troy is despicable. Reminds me either of a Crips/Blood member in South Central LA, or a beach bum in Brisbane who drinks too much beer.

Haha - watching High School Musical 2 right now with 6 year old dancing around in sunglasses. Name is synonymous with fake tanned smug teenagers, sorry!

K8ster Sat 03-Sep-11 18:25:18

Troy is despicable

Black boy name.
I like Black people (by which I mean "African-American), just saying, for a lot of us (generational thing?) it's got a strong specific cultural association. So on a black boy I wouldn't blink but on a white kid I'd be thinking it was odd (I could get over "odd", but I'd still have that confused moment... and suspect many others would do same.. some might end up saying rude things about it)

pixiestix Sun 04-Sep-11 13:47:41

It reminds me of all the thickos kids in my school who thought that Brad Pitt's character in the film was called Troy rather than Achilles hmm

Bloody awful name imho.

Well its different. Theres not many around , a brave choice.

cece Sun 04-Sep-11 22:08:12

It means coming from the land of curly haired people doesn't it?

EdithWeston Sun 04-Sep-11 22:18:40

Troy was a female character in the Ngaio Marsh (?) murders, but the only one I've known in RL was male. It's not really a name I like, sorry.

cece Sun 04-Sep-11 22:22:18

The only Troy I have ever met used to steal from his mother. sad

'Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You may remember me from such other medical films as "Mommy, What's On That Man's Face?" and "Alice Doesn't Live Anymore". '

'Hi, I'm Troy McClure. You might remember me from such self-help videos as "Smoke Yourself Thin", and "Get Confident, Stupid.". '
