hi all,
What do you think of the name India for a little girl?
I usually prefere more classic English names, not into calling children sky, apple etc, anyway since iv come across India I love it, but dont want it to be a name people laugh at.
Honest opinions please

And if u have any ideas what goes well with it as a middle name I'd appreciate it Surname is 2 syllables starting with H.

Thank you xx

I love the name India, on my own list. If you like classic english names, why not use one as a middle name? For example India Elizabeth, India Sophie or India Eleanor?

I tend to find it a little odd, like calling a child Pakistan. I think if you have no connection to India - never been, no relatives there - then it's not really appropriate.

I like it...on my list.

However my DH said it would be 'kicking the ass' out of being middle class!!!!

Go for it...

Not especially keen I'm afraid - I think of it as a place name, or a name which used to seem exotic in the UK.

Only if you are uber posh or rich. Preferably both!

I know an India who is lovely and really suits her name (very middle class, creative/bohemian type). Personally I prefer Indigo, and raised this as an option with DH who declared that I am much too uptight to have a daughter called Indigo Grin

I love Indra and Indigo for girls! I have to say I know a couple of (cute) young Indias near me whose parents are definitely neither posh nor rich (more the oppposite tbh!). India is a nice name though, exotic but pronouncable and spellable.

I know several. They are all nice. I wouldn't choose it myself, though.

Thank you for all your input!

I love India Rose, not sure if Rose is too old fashioned but I think it's classic & pretty, I like it with India but not on it's own.

Don't know why I'm thinking of names I'm only 6weeks lol

Have you got any connections to India - is your family from there? Otherwise I'd find it an odd choice - like calling your child Africa.

I love it. It was on my list, in second place.
India Blue
India May
India Hope

I think the middle name can be almost anything - a name that has a special meaning to you.

I think its a beautiful name and I really really wanted to call my DD it but then I googled it with my surname and got some extremely undesirable results and I did not want my DD to bear the brunt of it!! If you like it go for it. Congratulations btw Smile.

Great country but probably not best to go there now you're pregnant, too many inoculations, malaria tablets to take. Definately would recommend for the future though.

Love India, and also Indie as a nn. Think it is pretty and also a worldy-wide kind of name all at the same time. It feels quite inspirational to me, like she'll grow up to explore the world and embrace different cultures. I don't think you have to have gone to India to use it. I haven't been but I would use it.
