Hello, at 30 weeks pregnant my OH and I have started to think about names for our DC. As this will be our first we are looking for people's general thoughts on our name ideas.

Emilia (nn Lila)

What are your opinions on these? Ideally we want our DC to be the only one in their class with their name but don't want it to be too unusual/no one can understand or say it. Do you have any other suggestions that would fit our criteria?

bunintheoven1 Tue 30-Aug-11 15:48:15

Middle name suggestions would also be fab!

janeandmichaelbanks Tue 30-Aug-11 15:59:33

Lennox - Annie but then also Lewis so Yeah it is perfectlyy fine
Atticus - To kill a mockingbird, it is alright very grown up if that makes sense
Chester - a rabbit
Phoenix - reminds me of River and Joaquin. But as you like names like that it is nice
Orlando - Bloom, but people will recognice it as a first name straight away, but I'm not a fan
Austin - Healey

Emilia (nn Lila) - not a big fan
Eloise - again not my thing, but it is alright
Isla - like it but maybe wont be only one in class
Gabriella - It is alright
India - if you like India I prefer Indiana
Scarlett - I like it

Your boys name are slightly more unusual than your girls. Are you having a mn? ideas?

bunintheoven1 Tue 30-Aug-11 16:04:28

Haven't got as far as middles names, but just the one and would probably come from the list as well. Which do you think go as fn/mn combinations?

janeandmichaelbanks Tue 30-Aug-11 16:17:37

Not nowing syl/ending of surname it is hard but personally I think

Phoenix Chester
Lennox Orlando
Lennox Austin
Atticus Orlando

Girls are harder as a lot end with a

Emilia Scarlett
Gabriella Eloise
Isla Scarlett (just I think)

bunintheoven1 Tue 30-Aug-11 16:19:47

Surname four sylable ending in -ery

minipie Tue 30-Aug-11 16:34:55

Austin is my favourite by far of your boys' names. Lennox is ok. The others are a bit "try hard" for me, sorry.

Girls: I love Emilia and Eloise. The others are nice too though, just not quite as lovely!

Cereal Tue 30-Aug-11 16:46:12

Lennox - like
Atticus - a bit pretentious and dusty-old-attics, but I like it as it sounds quirky and academic
Chester - place name, surname or dog's name
Phoenix - place name
Orlando - place name
Austin - place name but quite like it

Emilia (nn Lila) - like Emilia, but not Lila
Eloise - like
Isla - faddy
Gabriella - pretty
India - place name and a bit "done"
Scarlett - OK but "scarlet woman" not a nice connotation

MadHatter302 Tue 30-Aug-11 17:07:25

Lennox - Love, especially nn Lenny or Lex
Atticus - Okay, not my favourite from the list
Chester - very cool, like nn Chess
Phoenix - Good as a nn but a bit 'out there' as a fn
Orlando - ^^
Austin - Like

Emilia (nn Lila) - Love the nn Lila (if pn Lee-la) and like that it is a bit different to Amelia
Eloise - Favourite of your list and would be on mine if having a daughter
Isla - Nice as mn
Gabriella - Love with nn Ella
India - nice, would be on my list as well
Scarlett - okay, mn though

I would have Lennox Austin or Chester Phoenix and Eloise Isla or India Scarlett

Good luck!

rachel234 Tue 30-Aug-11 17:08:41

Love Lennox, Atticus and Orlando - lovely, cool, not overused names.

Your girls names, on the other hand, don't really do much for me, sorry. I'd choose Eloise if I had to.

curlwur200 Tue 30-Aug-11 18:07:20

Personally I would go with Orlando Lennox or Phoenix Austin and Emilia Eloise or Gabriella Scarlett. Good luck! smile

bunintheoven1 Tue 30-Aug-11 21:17:53

Okay Zetta (pn Zee-tah) has now been added to the girls list!

Offspring Wed 31-Aug-11 03:59:51

Not overly keen on the boys names, but at a push would have Lennox Austin or Austin Lennox.

I really love the name Eloise and would have it for this DC if it was a girl (or if Eloise was a unisex name smile). MN-wise I would have Eloise Gabrielle, or for others not on your list I like Eloise Kate and Eloise Georgia.
I also like Emilia and Isla.

LaLaLaLayla Wed 31-Aug-11 04:22:17

Atticus & Orlando, Eloise & India.

BedHog Wed 31-Aug-11 08:52:45

Lennox - good name, and Lennie is a v. cool nickname
Atticus - pretentious
Chester - animal name
Phoenix - girls name
Orlando - ok
Austin - reminds me of ugly, annoying 10 year olds.

Emilia (nn Lila) - pretty but popular
Eloise - love this, nn Lois
Isla - like
Gabriella - bit princessy
India - Earth Mother
Scarlett - racy

manicinsomniac Wed 31-Aug-11 12:01:10

Lennox - not keen, sounds like a surname
Atticus - bit heavy for a child. Finch could be a good nn though?!
Chester - quite nice
Phoenix - I actually like it but I think the general concensus would be 'weird'
Orlando - too fancy
Austin - it's ok, not overly keen.

Emilia (nn Lila) - sweet, like it
Eloise - not keen
Isla - lovely
Gabriella - beautiful, I used it as a middle name
India - nice
Scarlett - not keen.

For a boy I would choose:
Chester with something like Thomas, Alexander or James in the middle.
or (as a guilty pleasure which I think is totally ridiculous but sounds kind of awesome!) ... Phoenix Orlando (!?!)

For a girl I would choose:
Gabriella Emilia (other middle options - Alexa, Faye, Lucy, Niamh)
India Gabriella (other middle options - Jade, Faith, Kate)
Isla Scarlett (other middle options - Abigail, Grace, Katherine, Matilda)

MadHatter302 Wed 31-Aug-11 13:10:24

Just seen the suggestion of Zetta, very nice!

autumngirl231 Wed 31-Aug-11 20:37:34

Eloise is beatiful, as is Zetta. I love all of the boy's names. How about -

Scarlett Eloise
Eloise Gabriella
Zetta Emilia

Phoenix Orlando
Lennox Austin
Atticus Chester

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie Wed 31-Aug-11 20:45:51

LOVE Atticus but dislike all of the others, sorry.

Emilia (nn Lila)

Love Eloise.

MummysLittleSunbeams Wed 31-Aug-11 20:49:26

Wow this is the first time I've been on a baby name thread on mn & actually liked the names! grin

I'm also into names that are not popular but that people are familiar with (I have a Sadie & a Kitty)

I like all of your names but I'm dead against calling a baby X but having a nn of Y. I believe nn's should naturally evolve & can't be pre-ordained.

If I had to choose I'd say Atticus & Scarlett.

CaptainMartinCrieff Wed 31-Aug-11 20:52:12

Austin Lennox
Gabriella Scarlett

CaptainMartinCrieff Wed 31-Aug-11 20:52:54

Actually no!

Eloise Scarlett

GwendolineMaryLacey Wed 31-Aug-11 20:56:07

Zetta doesn't read as Zee-ta, she'll have a lifetime of Zeh-ta. Zita is better for that pronunciation.

MummysLittleSunbeams Wed 31-Aug-11 21:00:06

Oh & just starting to think about names at 30 weeks???? I'm thinking of names now for my dc3 & I'm not even allowed to have another one!! grin

bunintheoven1 Wed 31-Aug-11 21:05:43

Well it's more just started discussing! Most of the names I loved at the beginning of the pregnancy seem un-thought through and silly now OH and I have sat down and talked it through properly.
