No - but I'd assume is was Vanessa shortened.

I love Nessa..but it's the Gavin and Stacey connotations that make me love it. Sorry

We agreed ages ago it has to be cornish this time round, he's scottish and DD1 got a scottish name, I'm cornish and this one has to have a cornish name.

It's one of the few cornish female names DH will agree to. It means second.

The other is Kerra.

I like Elestren but he's having none of it.

No, never watched Gavin and Stacey.

I know a Nessa, never knew it was a Cornish name. Very pretty. Kerra is nice too.

Oooh. I think Elestren sounds lovely, different but not in a "way out there" kind of way. Try to persuade other half!!

No, it makes me thing Nessarose from Wicked.

I would assume that Nessa is short for Vanessa.

I won't lie to you, it does.

FairyArmadillo · 28/08/2011 22:36

No. But I don't watch it. It makes me think of Vanessa or Nesta (my friend's daughter, Welsh name).

I know a Vanessa who shortens her name to Nessa.

Elestren, dare I say it, has a ring of Canesten about it. Sorry!

Nope - but then I knew a lot of Nessas before G&S. Who are all Vanessa's

Report
bubblesincoffee · 29/08/2011 00:46

Sorry, it makes me think of Gavin and Stacey as well. Or the Family Ness, the cartoon based in Loch Ness with all the Nessies. But I don't think you should worry about that, as G&S isn't going to be a huge thing throughout your dd's life.

Kerra is lovely though.

Another who thought nessarose from wicked! It's lovely though! I like Kerra too!

Never heard of Kerra before. It is lovely and unusual. Use that, if you dont if I ever have another girl, I will!

Elestren sounds like a replacement hormone to me.

I knew a good few Nessas and Neasas in school and college in Ireland. Popular name there. I would actually consider it an Irish name.

I know a beautiful girl called Vanessa and her family shorten her name to Ness. I just CAN'T say it. It's horrid.

Nessa does make me think of Gavin and Stacey but it won't last. We've got a Willow and at the time everyone rambled on about Buffy (we weren't Buffy fans btw) but it's just not on anyone's radar now.

ProfYaffle · 29/08/2011 07:09

I like both Nessa and Kerra btw! Smile

Oh! Yes it does. We have a friend called Vanessa, her name is either Ness or Nessa which is sad.

SheCutOffTheirTails · 29/08/2011 07:27

No, it reminds me of my beautiful, clever, funny friend Nessa.

It's an Irish name, I had no idea it was Cornish too. Or that people used it as a shortening of Vanessa.

I love it, but have never seen Gavin and Stacey, so don't get the association.

Kerra is nice too, but a bit "Kerry gone wrong".

I don't watch Gavin and Stacey, but Nessa does remind me of Nessie (Loch Ness Monster!)

Report
HengshanRoad · 29/08/2011 09:40

Makes me think of the Loch Ness monster.
