What do you think of when you hear these names? What kind of person do you imagine?

We already have one son whose name is Alistair.

Not Sylvester. Others OK.

Don't like Sylvester. Love Barnaby and I like Frederick and Fred but hate Freddie.

Sylvester - a dapper, slim man from the 1950s in a grey suit and a hat, smoking outside a Jazz club
Frederick - a classic name so hard to picture what "a Frederick" would look like, but I'd imagine a nice friendly middle-class chap
Barnaby - quite a nice guy, though a bit wet

Sylvester is a duck. Or is that Tweety Pie?

Like Barnaby a lot.
Frederick ok but lots of Freddies around.

Barnaby is a bear

Frederick is a foreign prince

Sylvester is a sweaty muscle man.

Too much TV? Moi?

Sylvester - some sort of comedy character like McCoy or Tweety Pie. Joke name.

Frederick - or Fred/Freddie? 1920s dapper gent, old-fashioned family name or middle class kid

Barnaby - an oxbridge fop

Sylvester - the cat that tries to eat Tweety Pie, or Sylvester McCoy. Do not like it at all, sorry.

Frederick - posh, blonde. Like Fred as a shortened version, but do not like Freddie at all.

Barnaby - doesn't remind me of anything in particular, really love it. Do not like Barney at all however - big purple dinosuar.

bigbluebump Fri 26-Aug-11 21:28:07

Sylvester - a sporty strong man

Frederick - a swede

Barnaby - a bear/dinosaur

bigbluebump Fri 26-Aug-11 21:28:44

pointydog, what is a 'fop'?

rachel1970 Fri 26-Aug-11 21:36:50

Sylverster - Stallone
Frederick - a blonde Scandinavian
Barnaby - a big furry bear

littlemisslozza Fri 26-Aug-11 21:42:33

I like Barnaby a lot, even though I remember the bear.
