Amelie
(18 Posts)Dp has described this name as just a noise not a name (silly man) bit I love it!! What do you think...?
To me it always sounds like you're saying Emily wrongly. Sorry, don't like it.
I think it is quite popular are you French? We loved the name but decided it was a bit too twee with us being Northern and all!
Faddy. Will date.
To add, I think it's a pretty name, but she will be identifiable as a child of the 00s/10s, as Claire and Joanne are identifiable as children of the 70s/80s.
Ooooh damn I am a right northerner and now you have said the 1st time I met an Amelie I thought she said Emily... Maybe the silly man is right (will never ever in rl admit to this )
I think its pretty but I also think it sounds like Emily said wrong and around here there are loads of them.
Agree - very popular and will probably date. Nice when said with a proper French accent but less so when pronounced in English imo.
I know a lovely little Amelie, and she really suits it, however her mother is Spanish and her father Portuguese. They pronounce it Am-a-lee i assume this is how you would as well.
Common.
Nah, definitely not, go with Emily or Amelia but not some french combo that seems trendy at the moment.
It is alright - looks far better and less emily spelt/said wrong if you had the acute on the first e. That is how people will spell it (at least half the time) esp due to film.
Only if you're French or have French ancestry. I suspect its popularity with English-speakers stems from the film.
Great if you're french, a bit try hard if you're not imo. Plus people will mispronounce it forever, which will be annoying, despite there being loads of amelie's at the mo.
Advice taken... back to the drawing board thanks for taking time to help out is appreciated
I love it! Will prob use it myself.
Sweet.
Mccann.
