Layla, Laila? Do you like it and which spelling do you prefer?

38 weeks and really struggling to find a name this time round, dp and I both have names we love but unfortunately we don't like each others choices :(

Laila is the only one we both like (ish)

What do people think?

I like Laila, was on our shortlist but had a boy Smile It can also be spelled Leila which is my favourite but may cause pronunciation issues.

Yes, my favourite spelling is actually Leila.

I definitely like the 'i' rather than the 'y' spelling, but I was thinking the same as johnny, that with the 'e' some people may get confused and pronounce leela or something.

The 'e' does look nicer though doesn't it....

Have you considered Lola or Lila?

Depends how bothered you are about mispronunciation - DD has a name which can be pronounced three ways which we knew when we gave it to her, and as such, it doesn't bother us if people pronounce it one of the other ways since they're not mind-readers.

Of course, it may well bother her... Grin

That is to say it doesn't bother us if they mispronounce it the first time. If they persist, on the other hand...!

Grin Tilly

Don't really like Lila and think Lola only suits a child not an adult... (no offence to any Lila, Lolas out there)

Love Layla as DD1 is Layla. Spelled that way after the Eric Clapton song.

DD1 is a Layla (again as Fatshioista after the Song) it's a great name not that DD1 ever gets called it and know one not even in school or us calls her it.

I like all the spellings Layla/Laila look like diff versions. While Leila looks a bit different esp as Layla getting very popular you still get the name but with a less common spelling.

Lila just reminds me off Lilith or Lilian not good. Lola is very popular. But an adult Lila sounds better

I definitely like Leila best, looks nicest written down.

Some people might mispronounce, but still wouldn't go for Layla, it looks like a weird phonetic spelling like Kaytee or something. Laila is better, but still would look like a mis-spelling of Leila to me...

I know two Layla's under three years old, I think it's becoming more popular.

Leyla is also an option. I know a lovely one. You get the e but it looks easier to pronounce. I do really like Leila too.

I much prefer Leila, seems classier for some reason.

Love the name- I'd go for Leila as spelling. I would say that though as it's my dd's name!
