My due date is tomorrow and I think we have finally found a boys name we both like for DC3. Girls name has been agreed for months, but we're really struggling for boys. We both like Edward but it is a little bit too popular in our circle of friends (we know 5 under 5s) and I'm not very keen on Edmund, but what do you think of Edwin?

Thanks

Sorry, I LOATHE it( you did ask), it's a smug, slimy name to me. Use Edward.

FellatioNelson Fri 19-Aug-11 21:11:40

I don't like it. I can't imagine anyone called Edwin ever being nice, or attractive or likable. Sorry. Edward is fine though.

I don't like Edwin, sorry. But then I'm not keen on Edward either.

blinkineck Fri 19-Aug-11 21:47:39

I really don't like Edwin. I think it's a really weak name. I've known two Edwins, neither of whom I have liked.

MelinaM Fri 19-Aug-11 21:53:21

Love Edward and Edmund, Edwin is nice enough just not as nice as the other two namessmile

Spagbolagain Fri 19-Aug-11 21:55:39

I like Edgar better, but Edwin is nice. Will always leap into my mind as Edwin collins though

kampakat Fri 19-Aug-11 22:00:45

I know an Edwin who's about 2...he is a proper gorgeous cherubic little chap...so it gets a yes from me!

Kayano Fri 19-Aug-11 23:10:37

It's fil name but I love it

duckdodgers Fri 19-Aug-11 23:14:01

Edwin, no sorry not great in my opinion, very old fashioned, I would expect to see it in an Enid Blyton novel.

pointydog Fri 19-Aug-11 23:20:40

I love Edwyn Collins. And that would be enough to make me consider the name and think it's ok.

duckdodgers Fri 19-Aug-11 23:22:21

I forgot about Edwyn Collins, yeh hes cool and back to health thankfullygrin See the difference a spelling can make grin

2tired2bewitty Fri 19-Aug-11 23:27:30

My grandfather was Edwin and my brother is Edward, both lovely people.

pointydog Fri 19-Aug-11 23:29:25

And Ed/Eddie are great names.

Papyrus Fri 19-Aug-11 23:53:39

I prefer Edmund or Edward, but Edwin is fine.

Thanks everyone grin)

brodanbell Sat 20-Aug-11 23:28:31

Go for Edward. It's a great name. Edwin seems like such a half way house. I don't really see the point if you both like Edward, just because there are other Edwards around......are you realistically going to still know them all in 20 years time? Why go for a half-option?

Clary Sat 20-Aug-11 23:53:16

Edwin was my dad's name (he was quite nice, certainly never smug or slimy! grin)

It's DS1's middle name and I really like it. Do know, tho, FWIW, that all your Edwards, Edwins and Edmunds will be Ed or Eddie by the time they are 9. All the ones I know are.

Panzee Sat 20-Aug-11 23:54:14

Edwin Van De Sar. A great tribute to the man and his career. Go for it.

theworldspins Sat 20-Aug-11 23:55:24

Sorry I really don't like Edwin and I don't know what it is about it though you could use the nn of Buzz which is cool.
But really with names like Edward they are always going to be popular, but they are induring names that will last

ChippingIn Sat 20-Aug-11 23:57:25

So I assume the little fella hasn't made an appearance yet then?

Sorry, but I don't like Edwin - how about
