Finn, but to be honest I'm not sure either name is quite a perfect fit with Louis. Are you still open to suggestions or will it definately be one of the two?

Neither are perfect fits with Louis, but I prefer Brodie, with the ie.

Finn I love, but was forever spoiled for me by DH who said poor lad might be fat, and have to live with the name Finn.

Much more unusual than Finn. (There seems to be an awful lot of Finlays around here)

Neither go with Louis, but they don't really have to. If you are looking for a 'matching' name you might want to go with something a little more traditional.

I love Finn (I have one, who is definitely not a Finlay) but I'm afraid I've always thought Brody was a girls name - The singer in the Distillers is named Brodie.

Finn is way overused imo (especially if you add all the Finleys, Finlays, Finnians, Fintans etc) so I'd avoid that. Brody is ok imo - not a name I'd choose, but thankfully we all have different tastes (and you probably wouldn't like our choices either Smile).

I like Brody - reminds me of Brody Jenner. More unusual than Finn, which I agree is a little overused now, sorry.

Brody is the name of the village in Poland where my DPs family live, so I wouldn't Smile

Other than that it reminds me of the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

I only know one Finn[dgs] but 3 Brodies two of which are dogs and one is a surname for a child called Jonathan.

Not keen on either tbh. Finn (and its variations) are very common and well used now. Brody is just a bit too trendy and American teen drama-ish.

There are no Finn's in my area so I don't know why people keep saying the name is common and overused! I think it must depend upon your location. I agree, neither name goes really well with Louis, in terms of name origin etc. but if you like a name then does it matter??

Finn is fine, Brody is (ugh ugh ugh). Quenton (?sp) would go well with Louis.

Brody is the guys out of jaws ... Chief brody, the one who always kills the shark at the end of 1 and 2. Finn much nicer.

I love Finn. Dd would have been Finn. I quite like Brody too but prefer the spelling Brodie.

I think Brody/Brodie is less overused than Finn. I also like the suggestion of Quentin, nickname Quinn.

Goodness, I don't care about 'overused', what is the obsession? My son's name happens to be 'overused' and I couldn't give two hoots.

Brody is a name my DH has come up with (I'm not keen but promised I'd consider it). Finn is a name I've liked for years.


I also like Alfred, Albert, Frederick (et al). I'm not looking for a name that matches Louis, just one that sounds nice with it.

I prefer Finn, Brody means ditch and that put me off it completely. I think Louis and Finn sound fine together.

I too don't think that either Finn or Brody go that well with Louis (which I really like and don't find overused at all - is it even in the top 20 or so?).

One of the reasons people are concerned about popularity is that to many the point of naming someone is to IDENTIFY him/her and if that name is already used by thousands others he/she will always have to add a modifier to his/her name. (Last year we had 3 Harry's in our beavers group and 2 of the shared the same surname initial - not easy for the leader nor the boys).

Of your two suggestions I prefer Brody because I know 4 little Finns in our town (all under age 6), so I'd worry about popularity. Very trendy names like that also tend to 'date' more than more timeless ones.

Louis is probably more popular than Finn, especially if you consider the Louie spelling!

I have a very popular 70s name that is now out of fashion (Rachel) and I love my name.

Also, if I choose a name because it's not that popular - then it becomes massively popular?? Gutted!

Why should one not choose a name because they love it?
