Baby names

We're having a boy-what will we call him?

We found out today that I'm having a boy! Already have a dd so we are very chuffed! Have lots of girls names but not really any boys.

I like Theo - dh hates it
Dh likes Jimmy - I dont like this

Would really like a strong name, open to all suggestions. Thanks

What about Leo instead of Theo? It's more classic and I think it will survive the O trend better.

Jimmy sounds a bit gangster to me. He might ruff you up if you crossed him. I've known a few tough Jimmys so I'm a bit biased against it. James would help you ring 112. What about Jamie? He'd be the paramedic Grin

So, Leo and Jamie might be compromise names.

I like Vinnie, an even better gangster name. Leo is a good suggestion too.

Strong names... I think some of the gaelic names are good for sounding masculine and strong.

Lewis, Euan, Connor, Callum.

That's exactly what I said about Jimmy, it's a bit gangster especially with our surname! I think he likes it because of some footballer.

Leo is nice, will suggest that. Jamie is quite nice too.

Fergus means "Man of strength" Smile

I also love Dominic and Laurence

I like James. Would James be enough of a nod towards Jimmy?

Go with Rex, it's the new Harry.

Theo is very trendy and is starting to date already imo. Jimmy is ok but I'd put James on the bc.

I also like Dominic (Dom), Quentin (Quinn), Marcus, Thomas (Tom) and Fergus.

bandwithering I love your explaination

Leo is good. I don't like Jamie, it's done to death where I live and often seems to be used on children (of either gender) who don't behave themselves in public. Might just be where I live?

Duncan, Gavin or Adrian. All strong, all great. Especially Duncan.

Congratulations. I'm having a ds after a dd and found names quite tough tbh.

We've picked a namby, pamby, poncy, arty farty name so it won't appeal to you sadly. Grin

Most traditional names are pretty solid sounding ime.

I'm not really sure where the hostility is coming from - all I asked was for some name suggestions. I didn't realise that mumsnet users would get uptight over some baby names. I think I'll get thread deleted and not bother with this site again.

Eh, what hostility? Confused

If you think this is hostility, then maybe we are not the site for you.

Have a Brew

For what it's worth I like Jimmy, but would have James on the birth certificate.

Oh, were we all supposed to congratulate you on your pregnancy, and get excited that all wen't well at your scan, and get EXCITED that you are having a boy? Sorry. Confused

Hostility??? Bizzarre...

All I can see is a load of people taking time out of their busy lives to offer a complete stranger helpful suggestions.

Oh well, as the saying goes, don't let the door....

Did some people expect him to have fur lockets? Wink

It's lovely actually.

OP- what's your DD's name, so we can avoid same initial letter, or completely non-matching names (e.g. LaFawnda and Tarquin)

And all you people above, hostilely making name suggestions- shame on you you big name helpers.

What an odd thread - I honestly can't see any hostility here....

LaFawdna Grin - do you really know someone named this Grin.
