Pronounced Vey-da not Vah-da

As in My Girl.

Bit too Darth, or do you like?

fuckityfuckfuckfuck Sun 14-Aug-11 14:49:28

I would assume you were a big My Girl fan tbh. But when you say it I would htink most people would immediately preface it with Darth in their head.

EdithWeston Sun 14-Aug-11 14:49:35

Definitely Darth, I'm afraid, especially with that pronunciation.

SaffronCake Sun 14-Aug-11 14:54:52

People are going to think Vah-Dah and when you correct them they will think Darth.

What about Vala? (Vah-lah). Was on my list ontil DSS2 (age 21) said it put him in mind of the home planet of a Superman baddie or something. I had to conceed he had a point... But it's still less glaringly obvious than the draw back with Vada.

Olivesandfeta Sun 14-Aug-11 14:57:24

Sultenfuss smile

I quite like it, it's pretty.

MonsterBookOfTysons Sun 14-Aug-11 14:59:30

My neighbours dog is called Vadar. I dont like it tbh.

MonsterBookOfTysons Sun 14-Aug-11 14:59:49

Vada

thenightsky Sun 14-Aug-11 15:01:19

Lord Vader <<breathes heavily>>

Nope.

cookielove Sun 14-Aug-11 15:04:12

I personally thought of My girl, no darth in my mind. Erm i don't really like it, but each to their own smile

SaffronCake Sun 14-Aug-11 15:11:47

Or there's Vega (Vey-gah)

GeeinItLaldy Sun 14-Aug-11 15:31:11

Far too Star Wars, I'm afraid. Darth was the first thing that came to mind for me.

birdofthenorth Sun 14-Aug-11 17:07:22

Darth, sorry.

LOVE Vita though!

TheMonster Sun 14-Aug-11 17:08:29

Very dark side. I love it!

Rhubarbgarden Sun 14-Aug-11 17:57:51

Darth.

Bearcrumble Sun 14-Aug-11 18:01:51

It makes me think of Polari slang.

Bandwithering Sun 14-Aug-11 18:15:25

My friend's niece is called this but her dad is hungarian (I think it's hungarian. Or was it bulgarian)

I like it.

Darth is darth Vader isn't it? not darth Vada. So different.

ShoutyHamster Sun 14-Aug-11 19:07:36

It's a bit evil...

Bunbaker Sun 14-Aug-11 19:11:58

Like SaffronCake I thought it was pronounced Vah-da. Have never heard of My Girl. If you are prepared to spend a lifetime correcting other people's pronunciation then go for it. I neither like nor dislike it.

On the other hand how about Vanya?

CristinaTheAstonishing Sun 14-Aug-11 19:17:50

No.

MmeBucket Sun 14-Aug-11 19:18:23

I read the thread title, and immediately started humming Darth Vader's theme music out loud.

Cattleprod Sun 14-Aug-11 19:25:59

It makes me think of a boy at my school called Anil Vada. Poor boy spent many years being known as Anal Invader!

LifeOfKate Sun 14-Aug-11 19:41:00

I thought it was spelt Veda? As in the hindu gods? Anyway, I like it, it does make me think of My Girl, but not in a bad way smile

scarlettsmummy2 Sun 14-Aug-11 19:43:55

I'm Irish and it immediately made me think of Veda bread, which is a very popular brown loaf.

RageAndLove Sun 14-Aug-11 20:06:18

Instantly thought Darth when I saw thread, sorry

coccyx Sun 14-Aug-11 20:08:06
