Baby names

brother/sister name needed for Felix - 9 weeks to go!

Hi, My baby's due in 9 weeks and we've not quite figured names out yet, so would appreciate some opinions as I dont really want to ask friends or family in case we go along with one they hate! (Other suggestions welcome. Can't have Saskia, Dominic - in family.) I want a name that willl never make it to the top 50 names if poss, or never be heard from a parent of a kid drinking Coke out of a baby bottle with a pasty in hand. Cheers in advance!
Girls names I like:
Beatrice (bit posh? Lots of Bea's about?)
Clementine (love it - don't like Clem though)
Kitty (love it - maybe a bit girly though?)
Franka (hub says too German!)
Polly (bit plain?)
Greta (but girl in Felix's class called this)
Boys names we like:
Dexter (love it - but a bit too popular now?)
Rex (bit doggy? - ha! a pet theme)
Fabian (hub says it's too public school, he likes Fletcher)

Hi,
of your girls names I like Beatrice (don't think it is too posh as is more used now than it used to be, although there are not loads around) also think it goes with Felix. I also like Greta, don't see why another older child who is not a close friend having the same name should matter. Kitty is nice as nickname for Katherine. Not massively keen on Clementine (don't like Clem either).

Not sure Dexter would pass your coke-in-a-bottle test over the next few years to be honest.
Agree Rex is just too doggy.
Fabian - not sure what to make of, wouldn't be sure how to pronounce it personally, isn't it a society? It goes well with Felix though!

Boys names that are different but not silly quite hard to think of. What about
Rufus
Otis
struggling to think of any more!

I like Greta very much - lovely and classic but not overused and trendy.

For boys, I'm not keen on Dexter and agree about it not passing the coke-n-a-baby-bottle test, sorry. Our neighbour's German shepherd is Rex but I don't see why a baby boy couldn't be named it.

How about Quentin/Quinn, Xavier or Florian?

I love Beatrice and Greta. Dexter is total coke-in-a-bottle to me. I love Rex!

Greta is lovely, very elegant but strong. I think it fits your criteria too, doubt it will make top 50 or be popular with the Greggs crowd.

Don't like any of the boys names really, especially Dexter. Maybe:
Jonas
Otto
Leon
Lucas
Luca

Really?

I have a Felix. Possible names for sibling were Augustus and Emmanuel for boys, and Clarissa and Cornelia for girls. My very favourite name is what DD ended up with (decidedly not top 50 - or even top 5000!), but I liked the others too.

Well, I've seen Irn Bru in a baby bottle from a teen mum I worked with - and I worked with Health Visitors who had known parents whizzing up MacDonalds food for weaning their little one. Ta for suggestions so far - not seen Dexter in that way before, so good to hear others honest opinions :-)

My Step son is called Bryce (pronounced brice) wont find many kids called that in the UK, Popular in NZ and OZ apparently.

Love love love Fletcher, Kitty and Polly Grin all suit both child and adult IMO

I like Beatrice and Clementine. Beatrice Clementine would be a lovely name :)

Kitty, Polly - too nicknamey
Franka, Greta - harsh

Dexter - too surnamey
Rex - perhaps a bit doggy... how about Max?
Fabian - nice but yes it's posh

Hmmm I would beware of the potential pet theme, particularly cat theme.

Felix and Kitty? That makes me rofl, I'm sorry Blush

Ditto for Rex and Rufus.

Clementine is lovely from your girl's names, I'm not sure about any of the rest. To me Dexter is in no way Coke-In-A-Bottle, but what do I know.

I too have a Felix. Beatrice is our number one name for a potential DD. I am absolutely in love with the name Fabian - a friend suggested it to me recently and I think it is an amazing name! Another great boys name is Tobias. Love Hugo too. Quite fond of Reuben. Love Matilda, Florence, Esme and Eleanor. Like you, I really like the name Clementine but do not like Clem. That said, I have a three syllable name and my name has never been shortened, so as long as you just stick with the full name and correct people when they shorten it, as I have done!

Beatrice - LOVE on our list if we ever have a DD2
Clementine - IMO its going to be one of those faddy names. Also I don't really like the nn's
Kitty - LOVE you could always have Katherine
Franka - Not keen.
Polly (bit plain?) Yes
Greta - LOVE.

Dexter - Not keen have you seen the USA TV prog call this about a serial killer!?!?!
Rex - Great strong name, but sadly with a Felix it's just too much.. 'X'
Fabian - Dislike don't hate...only Fabian I know was French!

How about:
Velma
Delilah
Claudia
Iris
Angelica
Davina
Daphne

Otto
Otis (first things I thought of when I saw your thread)
Rufus
Jago
Jonty
Magus or Magnus
Grayson
Gilbert
Valentine

Love Beatrice, classic and beautiful. Love the nn Bee too.

clementine is horrific. Clammy Clemmie, phlegmy Clemmie etc plus is a fruit!

greta is absolutely gorgeous

dexter is the best for a boy. TV show is a passing fad.

I'm really struggling for girls names and just got ridiculously excited when I saw Greta...never considered it before, love it! Pretty sure DP won't go for it though. :(
Some good suggestions...I like Polly, Greta, Dexter and Fabian. How about Gabriel, Fifer, Caleb, Nicholas, Lucas? As I say, I struggle for girls names! I like Iris though.
