I like Anya (but would pronounce in Ann-ya but then I'm common Wink. Amelia & Alexa are both nice but are quite popular (lots of Millie's and Lexie's around)

There's also Adriana, Aurelia, Alina, Andrea, Angela. Why does it have to be A?

I'm considering both Arya and Abbey for a girl. Still trying to pry DH away from the dreaded Sophie lol

It doesn't have to be A, that's just where we started! (But I do seem to like vowel starting names...)

Don't like Andrea or Angela because they, unreasonably I know, sound a bit 80's to me.

Never heard of Alina though and that's starting to sound good....

I like Abbey but DP has a thing against "shortened" names as full names

Of you list, I think Allegra is by far and away the nicest.

The rest are all fine, except Albany which I really don't like (sorry).

Anya [Arn-ya] - by far the nicest
April - ok
Amber - dog's name-
Alyssa - made up sounding
Ailie [Ay-lee] - nice if spelled Eilidh
Aithne [Eth-nee] - nice if spelled Eithne
Allegra - makes me think of long legged creatures but maybe just me as people on here seem to like it
Albany - sounds like a hotel
Amelia - don't like, v popular
Alexa - ok but don't like Lexie

In summary, love Anya. Also like Alice and Anna. Good luck choosing.

Aline is gorgeous and unusual
Allegra was one of my choices for DD (overruled)
Anastacia seems to be getting more popular

Anya will be pronounced Ann-ya by the world at large.

I like Alexia (with an i)

April, Amber, Alyssa and Amelia are the nicest of those IMO.

I heard the name Allenby once and I loved it. Unusual but nice

RustyBear · 13/08/2011 08:33

I love Amber, but I am prejudiced, having a gorgeous one of my own...

I like Allegra and Alexa from your list. I also like Alyssa, but there are so many spelling and pronunciation variations around that she'd probably spend her whole life telling people how to spell/pronounce it.

Anya is lovely, but I too would pronounce it Anya. I know adding an R is a regional accent thing, but I think that sounds common, sorry!

WheelsOnTheBike · 13/08/2011 09:04

Alicia is a nice name too.

Kayano If you are going to have Abbie then please spelling Abbie or Abi(gail) or Abby. Abbey is not a name, it's a large building.

I love 'A' names. My faves from your list are:

Anya
Amelia
Alexa

I also like:

Ariadne
Alice
Anis (very old fashioned version of Agnes - lovely I think!)
Anna
Annie

I have an Anya - is always pronounced Ann-ya. I think is Arn-ya is America as this is how FIL pronounces it as he is American!

Don't get too stuck on any particular letter or you'll end up with a really long list of names you don't like!
