Does Felix make you think of a cat?

It's the top contender for my six-week old son (I have to get a move-on). I know it's associated with cats, but really that strongly? My aunt said flat-out it would be cruel to call him Felix. I said he looked like a Felix and my Mum said, but does he have a tail?
Am fed up because I really can't think of many names...

There are lots of boys called Felix and I'm sure they aren't all called "the cat". Felix is Latin for happy (or lucky) - Felis cattus is Latin for cat. You're not calling him Felis so tell them to sod off.

I think it's a lovely name and would have used it for any 2nd DS we might have had but it's too close to DS's name so can't.

In answer to your question: no.

My friend has a baby called Felix. If anything I associate the name with its meaning of happy/lucky.

Felix is a fab name!
I only know one Felix. He's 4 and is absolutely gorgeous (and doesn't bring to mind cats at all Grin)

Do it! He's your son not your mother's!!

It was one of our choices too.

I think it's a lovely name. It's not like you want to call him Whiskas or Pedigree Chum Grin (or Sheba for that matter). I also associate it with its meaning lucky or happy.

Yes, but only because I don't know any people with the name! As soon as I do (and it's a name that I'm sure I'll come across sooner rather than later) then the cat association will go. I'm sure your mum would be the same, and in a couple of years will be saying how funny it is as she loves the name now, and doesn't associate it with cats at all.

It is a very lovely name, honestly!

Felix is a brand of cat food.

How weird, MY aunt told me it would be cruel to call my baby Felix.

I am ignoring her, it's our chosen boy's name Grin

It's not THAT common, only 511 boys were called Felix last year (compared with 8500 Olivers and 7000 Jacks.

Felix is definitely a cat in my head!

Nope. It makes me think of my DS2. He was going to be named Felix Arthur but I had to draw the line at two brands of cat food.

It makes me think of my brother.

Yes. It is the biggest selling pouch cat food brand so the tv ads will be on for years to come. I wouldn't pick the name personally. You wouldn't call a girl Ariel would you?

I love the name Felix. It's a classic Biblical name.

I don't think of cats straight away but I'd think of the nice old-fashioned Felix the Cat, not the cat food.

No, it makes me think of the name I wanted for my PFB.

I LOVE it!

I know two girls called Ariel. Actually.

I like it and it would be on my shortlist, but its popularity and the cat food have put me off.

There is an alternative spelling of Felyx which is slightly nicer and less catty, if you really love the name.

Yes, it is indeed the biggest selling cat food on the market. And there is Felix the cat.

It makes me think of my brother and the three other little Felixs I know. Honestly, my brother has never been teased because of it. Use it if you love it!

yes - out first cat was Felix and I've only ever known one child called it. I still think of it as a cat's name and the boy must be about 12 by now.....

Stella yes, it reminds people of a cat.

A cat, not a demon or a slug or a pile of stinking manure, just a cat. Cat's are lithe, fast, cunning, gorgeous, affectionate, independant. I'm not even a cat person, I vastly prefer my dog, but still, cats are those things even to dog people. If my name meant "cat" to people I really wouldn't be too fussed. Indeed if I was called something that shortened to "Kat" I wouldn't stop people calling me it.

Yes it means cat.

If I loved it like you do I'd use it anyway.
