Indie is a strong woman's name and it is kind of fun!

I have only ever met one Indie and it was a boy, short for Indiana.

I quite like it but it sounds like a nickname, is it short for anything?

It's a kind of music, isn't it? As in independent record labels.

I also know a male Indi, but I do like it

No, it sounds silly. If you wanted a full name, I suppose India is a conventioanl option. But it really sounds too try hard hippyish

It sounds like its an abbreviated form of India which was a common name around here about 8 years ago.

(could also be shortened version of Indira)

India is a bit "done" now but Indira is nice.

I like it a lot more than India. I would expect to find the parents of an India a tiny bit annoying.

Andie short for Andrea
Lindy short for Lindsay

two similar sounding names that mgiht provoke fewer 'whatsortofaname is that?' looks. If you care. If not, Indie is quite nice actually.

My cousin's youngest son is called Indy. I think it's a good name for either sex.

My youngest (boy) is called Indy, not short for anything. If he had been a girl he would have been Indie/Indira.

Obviously I like it!!

I like it. Short, snappy and easy to spell/pronounce. And not overused as so many names on here are.

so are you two cousins then?!?

I couldn't help but think of Indiana Jones, he got called Indi

It doesn't sound like a complete name to me.

I would have suggested India as I love it regardless of it being 'overdone'.

I know an Indy - I wasn't super keen on the name when her parents chose it, but now of course it really suits her, and she's a lovely girl, so I'm fond of it because of that :)

I desperately wanted to name ds1 Indiana, Indie for short. It would have suited him perfectly too. If you love the name, go for it! I have hated the decision we made and the name he was eventually given...

i know a few Indie's but they are all either India's, Indira's or Indigo's. Indie names were massive in the hippy population between about 5 and 15 years ago, but the fashion seems to have passed now.

Love Indra & Indira. Agree India is now overdone. Indi/e is lovely but I think I would opt for a longer full name.

The lead character in Disney's "How to be Indie" is an Indira.
